Car jackers, convicted killers and angry parents who took the law into their own hands are among those to have found themselves in the dock this week.

County lines drug dealers and sick sex offenders are starting custodial sentences for the crimes which have now been brought to justice.

Each week, dozens of defendants find themselves in the dock and LancsLive reporters are on hand to report the most serious cases.

A Blackpool mum attacked the mother of a child she thought was bullying her son, then set upon police officers when they went to arrest her.

Lisa Bailey, 48, had received two reports her son had been assaulted in September and October 2021. She tried to resolve the issue through school, but when she received a third report, in March 2022, she decided it was time to involve the police.

On April 1 officers were due to attend her son’s school, but were unable to do so due to lack of resources. Bailey was concerned about her son’s safety during the school holidays and went to speak to the other boy’s bother. However the situation escalated on the doorstep and she assaulted the woman, causing her to fall over.

Police visited her at her home later that evening, but Bailey became aggressive again and both she and her husband were arrested for assaulting officers in their home.

Pervert jailed after carrying out sickening sex act while holding baby seagull

A man who admitted carrying out a sex act while looking at animal porn and while holding a baby seagull that he had captured has been jailed for 24 weeks.

David Lee, 40, appeared at court where he had admitted causing unnecessary suffering to the herring gull at a previous hearing. The incident happened at about 1am on August 18 last year.

Magistrates handed him an immediate 24-week jail term and banned him from keeping animals for 10 years. Lesley Burgess, prosecuting, said: “This was a deliberate and gratuitous act that caused suffering.”

Bungling county lines dealers checked into Travelodge – but stuck out like sore thumbs

A pair of county lines drug dealers checked into a Travelodge in Morecambe but were caught because ‘they stuck out like sore thumbs’.

Wesley Bristow, 34, and Harrison Galloway, 19, travelled to the seaside town to sell class A drugs for a man known only as ‘Scouse Johnny’. They checked into the hotel with their girlfriends and set up shop, but on October 5, 2022, Lancashire Police received ‘community intelligence’ that the pair were up to no good.

Officers raided rooms 104 and 106 of the Euston Road hotel, which had been paid for in cash by Galloway’s girlfriend. In room 104 they found nothing untoward, but in 106 they discovered Bristow, Galloway and their girlfriends, along with drugs, weapons and cash, Preston Crown Court heard.

A woman who deliberately set fire to her own caravan as part of a £28,000 insurance fraud putting lives at risk and and lied to police has been jailed.

Catherine McCreadie, 59, of Esk Avenue, Whitehaven was charged with arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered, fraud by false representation and perverting the course of justice. Today (June 2) she was sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court to six years for her ‘reckless’ actions.

An obsessed’ paedophile who performed disgusting sex acts outside woman’s home in East Lancashire was caught after she set up a ‘makeshift trap’ using a bucket and fishing line.

Farhan Zafar moved to Nelson after being released on bail following his arrest for having sex with a 14-year-old girl on multiple occasions during four months of abuse. The 22-year-old then became ‘fixated’ with an adult woman he met in the Pendle town and was later seen standing naked in her garden illuminating himself with a phone torch while performing the sickening acts.

Zafar was jailed for four years and two months. He was also ordered to sign the sex offender’s register and was made subject to a sexual harm prevention order for 10 years. A 10-year restraining order was also put in place preventing him from contacting in any way his adult victim

‘It’s my car now’: Drug-addled carjackers stole car full of terrified passengers in night that ‘quickly got out of hand’

A pair of drug-addled thugs stole a car and falsely imprisoned its three passengers when “things quickly got out of hand”, a court heard.

Ryan Nuttall, 31, and Malik Husain, 21, have been jailed for 30 months each for their role in a terrifying chain of events on September 10 and 11, 2022

Preston Crown Court heard Emma Waterworth, a woman Nuttall knew in Birmingham, had agreed to travel to Preston and take him back to the West Midlands. She made her way to Lancashire with Kevin Chapman and Neil Gibb, who had never met Nuttall before, the court heard.

However the three were held in the car and driven around when Nuttall and Hussain took the keys from the driver and claimed the car for themselves. Mr Chapman was also assaulted by the pair.

Woman watched TV, drank five cans then attacked her partner with a broken mug when he asked her to leave

A man was left with a large gash to his arm when his partner struck him with a broken mug.

Preston Crown Court heard on June 17, 2022, Sarah Parr was at her partner’s house when he arrived home from work. They watched TV and drank around five cans of lager each, but at 9pm a row broke out between them.

Parr, 35, picked up a mug and smashed it on the coffee table. Her partner told her to leave, but Parr carried on causing problems.

At the back door, he put his arm across the gap to stop Parr from getting back into his home. The court heard he then ‘slapped her with an open hand to try and shock her into calming down’ and leaving.

Moments later he saw blood gushing from his arm. He asked Parr what had happened, and she said she had done it with the mug.

Parr, of Harewood Road, Preston, was arrested and charged with unlawful wounding and criminal damage. She appeared at Preston Crown Court to be sentenced.

BMW driver admits causing death of pregnant mum-of-two Frankie Hough in horror M66 crash

A driver has pleaded guilty following a crash which caused the death of a pregnant mum on the M66 last month.

Emergency services were called to the scene near Bury, Greater Manchester, at around 3.,10pm on May 13. Frankie Julia Hough had pulled into the hard shoulder to answer a phonecall.

The 38-year-old, from Oldham, was then hit by an out-of-control BMW being driven by Adil Iqbal, 22. She died two days later in hospital, reports the MEN.

In court today (June 19), Iqbal, of Hope Street in Accrington, pleaded guilty to causing her death. He also admitted causing serious injuries to Frankie Jules-Hough’s son, Tommy.

He has not yet entered a plea into the charge of causing serious injury by dangerous driving to her nephew Tobias

Musician stabbed student with ‘mafia stiletto’ knife on way home from party after joke about his skateboard

A talented musician who stabbed a student eight times with a 13-inch ‘mafia stiletto’ knife as he walked home from a party has been jailed for 15 years.

Shiloh Pottinger, originally from Oswaldtwistle, repeatedly knifed 19-year-old Luke O’Connor on his way home from a Halloween event last year. A court heard how the 20-year-old reacted ‘violently and unpredictably’ after a joke was made about his skateboard by Luke’s friend.

The Manchester Metropolitan University student was killed during the horrifying attack in October 2022. Pottinger, who was studying for a degree at the prestigious BIMM Institute, was found not guilty of murder by a jury, but convicted of manslaughter following a three-week trial.

A Manchester United fan has chuckled in the dock of the court after receiving a four-year football ban having admitted wearing a football shirt at Wembley Stadium which made an offensive reference to the Hillsborough disaster.

James White, 33, pleaded guilty to displaying threatening or abusive writing likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress at court today (June 19) The court heard he wore a Manchester United shirt with the number 97 and the words “Not Enough” on the back to the FA Cup final on June 3.

Manchester City won the FA Cup at Wembley, beating local rivals United 2-1. Ninety-seven football fans died as a result of a crush at a match between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest at Hillsborough Stadium in Sheffield on April 15 1989.

Driver ‘lucky nobody was killed’ as dangerous chase tears through town – because passenger had broken curfew

An unlicensed driver led police on a dangerous, high speed chase where he was “lucky no-one was killed” – all because his passenger was breaking his curfew.

Jake Hardwick sped along Blackpool Promenade before making a series of sudden and reckless turns past homes and pedestrians as he skipped give way signs and ‘stop’ markings and drove on the wrong side of the road.

He eventually jumped out of the still moving car before being caught as he tried to flee on foot. He was handed a four month sentence suspended for 18 months with 30 days of rehabilitation activity requirements and 150 hours of unpaid work. He is also banned from driving for 30 months.
