SANGSAD BHABAN, June 22, 2023 (BSS) – Veteran lawmaker and deputy leader of the parliament Matia Chowdhury today said country’s overall employment generation has now becomes double by exceeding it to 7.11 crore in the last fifteen years due to befitting leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. 

 

“Country’s overall employment generation has reached 7.11 crore in the last fifteen years and that was almost double compare to the level of 4.73 crore of 2007-08 fiscal, said the deputy leader.

 

Taking part in the general discussion on the national budget for 2023-24 fiscal at the Jatiya Sangsad here, the ruling party lawmaker said even the size of the GDP also has been increased to four fold compare to the level of 2007-08. 

Even the country now has been emerged as 35th economic power in the world economy from the earlier 60th position in 2007-08, she told the parliament with Deputy Speaker Shamsul Huq Tuku in the chair.

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on June 1 unveiled a Taka 7,61,785 crore national budget for 2023-24 fiscal setting the GDP growth target at 7.5 percent amid an economic meltdown across the country due to ongoing Ukraine-Russia war.

 

Terming the budget as challenging, the veteran leader said although the economy of the world is now under pressure due to the war, but the incumbent finance minister has presented the proposed budget titled “Towards Smart Bangladesh Sustaining the Dev elopement Achievements of a Decade and a Half” aiming to tackle the economic meltdown and the higher inflation as well.

Criticizing the role of BNP, Matia Chowdhury said BNP has no respect to the democracy and that’s why they do not want to participate in the elections. BNP and their alliances have engaged lobbyist as part of their conspiracy in order to take office in unconstitutional way, she added. 

 

Only the people of the country and those who will participate in the democratic movement have the only right to take office as the people don’t want to take office through unconstitutional way. 

 

Treasury bench members, Bakul Hossain, Sagupta Yasmin, Atiur Rahman Atique, Sahadara Mannan, HM Ashiqur Rahman, Shahjahan Khan, Ragibul Ahsan Ripu, Abdul Momin Mondol, Basanti Chakma, Moazzem Hossain Ratan, Mahmudul Hasan Ripon, Saimum Sarwar Kamol, Ashiqullah Rafique, Begum Hosne Ara, Aslam Hossain Sawdhagar, Jatiya Party lawmaker Mujibul Huq Chunnu, Workers Party lawmaker Fazley Hossain Badsha and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal lawmaker Afroza Huq, took part in the budget discussion.

 

Earlier, they paid their cordial tribute to the memory of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, four national leaders, martyred freedom fighters and also those who made their utmost sacrifices during the War of Liberation and all subsequent democratic movements in the country.
