Aberdeen keen to reunite Leighton Clarkson with former Liverpool team-mate Rhys Williams

ABERDEEN could offer Liverpool ace Rhys Williams the chance to join ex-Kop team-mate Leighton Clarkson at Pittodrie.

SunSport understands Dons boss Barry Robson has been tracking the 22-year-old, who spent last season on loan at Blackpool.

The England Under-21 defender has been told by Anfield chiefs that he can leave Merseyside if the right offer comes in.

Relations between the two clubs are strong, following Liverpool’s signing of Calvin Ramsay last summer and now Clarkson’s move to Pittodrie after a successful loan.

And that may lead to an attempt from the Pittodrie club to bring in a second young player from Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

Williams has made nine appearances under the German following injuries to Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez, including Champions League clashes with Ajax, Midtyjlland and Atalanta in 2021.

But he has not featured since the end of that campaign, and the Reds are ready to let him move on.

Meanwhile, Livingston gaffer Davie Martindale insists there is no chance he will allow Joel Nouble to leave on the cheap.

The Lions boss welcomed his players back for pre-season training.

And while Nouble was among them, his gaffer does not expect the in-demand forward to be at the Tony Macaroni Arena by the time the summer transfer window closes.

Martindale has said previously that he expects to get at least £1million for his attacking talisman, who spent most of his career in lower and non-league football down south before joining Livi from Aldershot in 2021 on a two-year deal, with the option of a third.

Nouble, 27, is attracting interest from clubs in France and Belgium as well as south of the border.

Martindale said: “I have had a lot of third party interest, agents and representatives of other clubs phoning me.

“Joel was always one I felt would be a late July, early August deal.

“I still expect him to go, there is just nothing concrete or nothing I have accepted that suits the club at this point in time.

“We’ve had informal talks but nobody is getting to where I would like them to be.

“I’m not in any great rush to sell Joel, he has got a lot of value to me being at the club.

“He could potentially help me get top six and European football next season, so there has to be a benefit to Livingston to allow Nouble to leave this summer.

“I don’t want to stand in the lad’s way either, but it has to work for both parties.

“I don’t expect Joel to start the season with me.
