Abingdon, VA – Pedestrian Accident Reported on I-81 near MM 17

Abingdon, VA (June 23, 2023) – A pedestrian accident was reported in the Abingdon area on Thursday, June 22.

At around 6:45 p.m., the police and firefighters were notified that their assistance was needed at the scene of a crash that took place on Interstate 81.

Reports from authorities indicate that a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on the northbound side of the interstate near mile marker 17.

Authorities responded to the scene of the crash and immediately shut down the road.

Medics were called to care for the victim on site before transporting them to a local hospital.

At this time, the incident is being investigated.
