Lander-Grinspoon
students create
cardboard arcade

NORTHAMPTON — The fourth and fifth grade students at Lander-Grinspoon Academy have created a cardboard arcade that will be open for the students and parents to come and win prizes.

This year’s fourth grade game themes are of the National Parks, which is part of a recent project that the students just completed, called “See The USA.”

The fifth graders have joined in with their knowledge from last year and are working as mentors to the fourth grade students, as they complete games as well. There will be cardboard mazes, skee-ball, foosball, pinball machines, corn hole, golf and more.

Students were inspired by the video Caine’s Arcade.

This has become an annual project for the end of school with fourth grade teacher, Laurie White and is being constructed in the school’s art room and makerspace with the direction of teacher Terri Cappucci.

The arcade will be open Friday, June 9, the last day of school, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.

The purpose of the plan is to identify and assess the risk to Chesterfield from natural hazards and climate change impacts, and to determine how to best mitigate these.

The meeting will include an overview of the planning process, a discussion of natural hazards and climate change impacts in Chesterfield, and the mitigation strategies currently in place. Municipal officials and Pioneer Valley Planning Commission staff will be available to answer questions and respond to comments about the project.

The plan is being updated by the town with assistance from the PVPC and is funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency.

Upon completion, the plan will be submitted to MEMA and FEMA for review and approval. A FEMA approved plan makes the community eligible for federal and state mitigation grant funding.

For more information, please contact PVPC’s Mimi Kaplan at [email protected] or (413) 285-1188.
