Best Liverpool player ‘nailed on’ to receive summer transfer approach from powerful club after agent theory
Liverpool should be bracing themselves for an approach by Paris Saint-Germain for Mohamed Salah this summer, according to a former player.
Salah was once again Liverpool’s leading goalscorer in the 2022-23 season with an overall tally of 30 goals. His reliability in front of goal across multiple seasons has made him arguably the best player currently at Jurgen Klopp’s disposal.
However, after Liverpool’s failure to qualify for next season’s Champions League, Salah’s future has come into question. A strongly worded statement by the winger opened up speculation about if he could leave.
That said, it was only last summer that Salah signed a new contract with Liverpool to last until 2o25.
Nevertheless, a player of his calibre could be on the radars of some of Europe’s elite clubs. Indeed, ex-Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler has now explained why to expect interest in Salah from the likes of Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
Fowler wrote for the Mirror: “I’ve thought for a few months now that he could be targeted this summer, and it wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if both Madrid and PSG come in for him – with the French club nailed on in my opinion to try and get him.
“I don’t think Liverpool fans should be too worried, because he’s got a long contract and the club has proved in the past few years they won’t be forced into selling unless it’s on their own terms.
Agent could have worded Salah statement
“In saying that, that his statement at the end of the season declaring how devastated he was they didn’t finish in the top four and there’s no excuse for it, was a worry. To me, that didn’t sound like Mo, but his agent. And we know how he operates.
”PSG have to bring in a big, big name to replace [Lionel] Messi this summer, and probably Neymar too. So they’ll be swinging big – and they could have a real go at [Harry] Kane too.”
After winning Ligue 1 again, PSG will be able to offer Salah the Champions League involvement he would be lacking at Liverpool.
However, Jurgen Klopp has already denied that Salah won’t be on board for Liverpool’s drop down to Europa League level.
Furthermore, earlier in his article, Fowler clarified: “Obviously I’m not suggesting for one minute that Liverpool should, or will, sell him.”
In summary, Salah probably will enter a seventh season with Liverpool after all, but it could be a nervous summer before it begins.
