Blackpool Tower to be lit up in memory of The Script’s Mark Sheehan thanks to one selfless super fan

A kind-hearted super fan of The Script is determined to honour late guitarist Mark Sheehan with the help of Blackpool’s iconic landmark. Charley Dolan, who has been a dedicated fan of the Dublin pop-rock band for 12 years, was left “absolutely heartbroken” in April when it was announced Mark had died aged 46 following a short illness.

And as soon as the band revealed they would be going ahead with their summer warm-up gig at the Winter Gardens in her hometown on June 4, she knew exactly how she wanted to honour Mark’s memory – to light up Blackpool Tower green.

Charley, 24, set up a GoFundMe to raise the £300 needed, with the target smashed within minutes. It has now reached £1,300 and rising within three days. She says Mark “really cared” about his fans and would take the time to message them and offer them advice.

The pair had shared an “ongoing joke” about how Mark was scared of heights, but he had “made a deal” with Charley that if she could get him a lifetime pass to the famous tower, he would never take her favourite song ‘Nothing’ off the tour set list.

“I could not believe it, I was so shocked when it was announced he had died,” Charley, who works as a therapeutic care occupational therapist at children’s home, told LancsLive.

“Mark really took the time to learn about fans and I have met him six times. I fell in love with the music first but then I found that they’re all just so down to earth and they care so much about their fans. The Script was my first ever gig in 2013 and I have seen them in places like Lisbon and Paris. I know Mark will be chuckling at the thought of the tower lighting up green for him.
