While on Hall Street, an officer saw a Nissan Sentra and ran a check on the license. The owner of the vehicle, a woman, had prior police contacts. But a man was driving, the officer wrote. The officer knew a man named Nicholas was connected to the owner of the Nissan and might have a warrant on a prior domestic incident, the report stated. The officer followed the vehicle and began to research the prior incident, discovered Nicholas’ full name, found out he had a suspended license, and an active no bail warrant out of Merrimack County Superior Court on a felony second-degree assault, simple assault, and domestic violence-simple assault charges, according to an affidavit. The officer caught up with Benjamin on North State Street, but when asked if he was Benjamin, the man gave another name, the report said. When asked for his date of birth, Benjamin was accused of providing a correct birth, connected to him, not the name he reportedly gave to the officer. The officer accused him of trying to walk away slowly, claiming to need to go to the bathroom, but the officer placed him in handcuffs. Dispatch confirmed the warrant, and during a search, the officer accused Benjamin of possessing a container with swabs, clear plastic baggies, and a metal spoon. Inside the baggies was a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine as well as pills identified as cyclobenzaprine hydrochloride, the report said. During processing, the officer noted Benjamin lost his license in March due to failure to pay child support, the report said.
