Carol A. Bury Obituary – York Dispatch

Carol A. Bury, 82, of York died May 27, 2023, at Providence Place, Dover. She was the wife of the late Joseph K. Bury. Carol and Joe were married for 40 years prior to his death in 2006.

Born October 31, 1940 in York, she was the daughter of the late Vincent D. and Dorothy E. (Robertson) Bare.

Carol retired from Northeastern School District as a Home Economics teacher after 23 years. Her earlier endeavors included leaving the comforts of her mom and dad and the family home, off to NewYork, NY and worked there in office administration long enough to experience life in the big city. Then early in her marriage when the kids were younger, she worked from home with Beeline Fashions, she worked alongside her husband Joe in Peoples Life Insurance, and along with Joe were partners in Jackie B’s restaurant. She would help at the restaurant on weekends when not grading papers. Following retirement, she became a Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway, and had a Home Interiors business for several years.

Carol graduated from West York High School, York Junior College, and received her Master’s Plus from Messiah College. She was a member of PSEA-Retired teachers, Realtors Association of York & Adams Counties, PA Association of Realtors, National Association of Realtors and received her CRS Designation, GRI State Designation, and ABR Local Designation. She is a former member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church and taught Sunday School there.

Carol had a passion for playing tennis and her and the family spent many summers in the Bethany Beach, Delaware area and her and Joe spent several winters in the Florida Keys.

Carol is survived by her 4 children, Joseph K. Bury of Lancaster, PA, Kimberly A. Knight and her husband, Ed Knight of Kingston, Ontario, Vincent D. Bury of York, and Michael J. Bury and his wife, Krisztina of Alaska; 10 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren. Carol was preceded in death by her daughter, Lisa Bury-Frey and her great grandson, Dakota J. Himes.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Etzweiler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 1111 E. Market Street, York. A visitation will be held Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. A private burial will be held in Mount Rose Cemetery.
