Carter Sichol receives WGCA All-America Honorable Mention; Sarah Zheng also All-Region

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – First-years Carter Sichol (Winnetka, Ill./ New Trier) and Sarah Zheng (Bolingbrook, Ill./ Neuqua Valley) took home recognition as the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) announced its 2022-23 Division III awards. Both Knights were named to the 12-person All-Central Region Team, while Sichol also garnered All-America Honorable Mention for her performance at the NCAA Division III Championships.
 
This is the ninth time that a Carleton women’s golfer has taken home All-America recognition and the ninth time over the last 12 years that the Knights have placed multiples players on the All-Region squad (see charts below).
 
During the 2022-23 season, Sichol won two tournaments, earned six top-5 finishes, and had nine top-10 results. She placed 10th at the NCAA Championships, ranking as the fourth-best individual finish in program history. Sichol had pulled to within a few shots of the leader when the third round of the tournament was wiped off the books due to “an unplayable hole”.
 
Sichol finished the 54-hole tournament with 10 official birdies—the second-highest total in the field—although she had six more birdies erased when the third round was scrapped. She played the par-5’s at a combined 7-under par, easily the best in the field. She posted a three-round score of 232 (80-76-76, +13).
 
She concluded the season at No. 12 in Golfstat’s player rankings after leading the Knights with an adjusted scoring average of 74.78.
 
Zheng was second on the Knights at the NCAA Championships, tying for 56th overall with a score of 248 (82-78-88, +29). She tied for ninth in the field with seven birdies over the three completed rounds. She ranked No. 94 in the country and was second on the Knights with an adjusted stroke average of 78.34.
 
Sichol and Zheng helped Carleton to a 15th place team finish at the national tournament, Carleton’s first trip to the NCAA Championships since 2019.
