The St. Mary’s softball team did a lot of things Tuesday. The Spartans reached 20 wins, shut out an opponent, and secured their spot in the Division 3 Sweet 16 with a win against Dedham.

In the 12-0 final, Anna Fringuelli retired 10 and allowed just one hit, and her run support couldn’t have been stronger. Brooke Moloney, Michaela Walker and Gabriella Marichal all went home with two hits apiece.

No. 1 St. Mary’s hosts No. 17 Dedham Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.

SOFTBALL

Uxbridge 9
Lynnfield 1

The No. 24 Lynnfield softball team was flying high after its upset win against Notre Dame (Worcester) Monday, but met its match against No. 8 Uxbridge Tuesday to eliminate the Pioneers from Division 4 contention.

Lynnfield was outhit 11-4, and failed to pick up a strikeout against hard-hitting Uxbridge. Lynnfield’s Ava Gamache had two hits, Elizabeth Considine and Morgan Hubbard added two more, and Hubbard secured the Pioneers’ lone RBI.

Sophia Brown got the start for Lynnfield, allowing four earned runs across six innings.

BOYS LACROSSE

St. John’s Prep 14
Barnstable 3

No. 1 St. John’s Prep (18-1) must’ve utilized its first-round bye, because the Eagles came out swinging against Barnstable Tuesday.

In the 14-3 final, The Prep was led by Jimmy Ayers (3 goals). He was also named the Moynihan Lumber Student-Athlete of the Year Tuesday – not a bad day for the hockey-lacrosse star.

Jake Vana had two goals and an assist, while Jimmy Nardone and Will Sawyer each had a goal and assist. Rowan Mondello and Cam McCarthy each dished out two assists.

Talk about a versatile offense – The Prep had 11 goal-scorers. Chris Esposito also won seven of eight faceoffs, while Austin Kitces made three saves on three shots.

The Eagles host Wellesley at 5 p.m. Thursday.

BOYS TENNIS

Lynnfield 4
Rockport 1

Another match, another win for the No. 3 Pioneers after they bested Rockport 4-1 Tuesday. The win secures Lynnfield’s spot in the Division 4 Sweet 16 where it’ll face Bromfield (details to be determined).

Dan Levin (6-4, 6-1) and Shea McCarthy (6-4, 6-1) were as automatic as ever in singles, and despite Shlok Kudrimoti falling in third singles, Lynnfield still held a comfortable 2-1 lead.

“Three very strong singles matches,” Lynnfield coach Joseph Dunn said.

From there, doubles victories from Rafik Khodr-Russell Kasdon (6-0, 6-2) and Raffi Arkun-Brendan Sokop (6-0, 6-0) were all Lynnfield needed.
