“Horsepower” car show to benefit CT Draft Horse Rescue

MARLBOROUGH – The first-ever car show at The Farm at Carter Hill, 86 E. Hampton Road, will benefit the horses of the CT Draft Horse Rescue. Car entries must arrive between 9 to 11 a.m. General admission starts at 11 a.m. and the show runs until 3 p.m.

Car entry tickets and general admission tickets are available through Eventbrite at Cash entries are available during the day of the event.

Awards will be presented at 2:30 p.m. There will be live music by local favorite, Beth and the Boys. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. There will be raffles and games, trophy awards, and more.

The CDHR is a non-profit organization dedicated to saving the lives of neglected or abused draft horses as well as draft horses heading to slaughter. For more information, visit www.ctdraftrescue.org or send an email to [email protected].

Car wash to benefit fire cadets

COLCHESTER – The Colchester Hayward Volunteer Fire Cadets, along with the Connecticut State Police Troop K Explorers, will hold a carwash fundraiser on Saturday, June 10, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The event will be held at the Colchester Fire Headquarters 52 Old Harford Road. Advisors will be assisting with this event using foam power sprayers. Donations will be accepted. For more information, call Debi at 860-204-1598.

Low cost rabies clinic taking place in Danielson

DANIELSON – Pet Pals Northeast, a local animal welfare organization, is holding a low cost rabies clinic at the Quinebaug Valley Veterinary Hospital, Rt 12, Danielson/Plainfield town line on June 24 from 2 to 3 p.m. Cost is $15 cash per animal. Pre-registration and appointments are required. Walk-ins are not accepted.

Mansfield Downtown Partnership presents summer concerts

STORRS – The Mansfield Downtown Partnership and the Town of Mansfield will host free concerts every Thursday in June and July on Betsy Paterson Square in Downtown Storrs.

All performances will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. All the concerts are free and open to the public. The rain dates are on the following Tuesday, unless otherwise noted. Visitors are welcome to bring a blanket or a lawn chair. Visit mansfieldmusic.org for more info and a schedule.

Survival gardening workshop taking place in Willimantic

WILLIMANTIC – A presentation and free hands-on workshop on Survival Gardening by Design will take place June 10 and 11
with homesteader and author Jerry Travers at Willimantic Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 126 Quarry St. RSVPs are required.

On Saturday, June 10, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., a sermon called “Gardening: God’s Classroom for Growing Character” will take place.

On Sunday, June 11, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the hands-on workshop on survival gardening will take place. Learn about gardening by the design (Genesis 2:5, 15), building better soil for a better gut microbiome, companion planting, culinary herb uses and more. Bring a bag lunch, shovel and hat. Tag sale taking place at First Baptist Church

WILLIMANTIC – The First Baptist Church of Willimantic will host a church-wide tag sale on Saturday, June 17, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the church on 667 Main St. Church members donated household items, plants, books, dvds, board games, miscellaneous kids items, and more. It will be held rain or shine (more items outdoors if shine, more indoors if rain) and space is available for any community members wishing to rent a table for $15. Columbia Congregational Church to host breakfast buffet

COLUMBIA – An all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet at the Columbia Congregational Church, 325 CT-87, will take place Saturday, June 10, from 8 to 11 a.m.

The menu will feature omelets (design your own), scrambled eggs, Belgian waffles, home-baked pastries and more. Cost is $12 per person or $30 for a family of four (two adults and two children under 12). For more information, contact Michele at 860-228-9306.
