Coventry City Aim for Promotion with “Incredible Culture”

Coventry City Aim for Promotion with “Incredible Culture”

Road users in Coventry are warned of potential delays this morning as 70 coaches carrying fans to London are set to leave from a car park situated just outside the city centre. Meanwhile, Coventry City’s goalkeeper, Ben Wilson, admits that his manager, Mark Robins, didn’t have much to do with him while he was backing up Simon Moore. However, now that he is the club’s first-choice stopper, he hears more from the manager. Wilson has excelled this season as the club’s goalkeeper and has made the number one spot his own, with a league-high 20 clean sheets. He has even contributed at the other end of the pitch this season, with a stoppage time equaliser at Blackburn Rovers in April.

Wilson states that he is now just like the apple of Robins’ eye, having otherwise just been the goalkeeping support act. The Sunderland academy product also showered praise on the job his boss has carried out since he walked through the door, and the recruitment that has been conducted. Michael Rose, Callum O’Hare, Kyle McFadzean, Matty Godden, and Jamie Allen all arrived in the same summer as Wilson, and the atmosphere fostered has contributed to their success.

Coventry City has already achieved an “absolutely incredible” feat by reaching the Championship play-off final. Sky Blues favorite Noel Whelan is praying that they complete a remarkable promotion to the Premier League by beating Luton Town at Wembley on Saturday. It has been a hugely eventful campaign for Mark Robins and his players, who had to contend with the pitch at the CBS Arena not being playable when the season started.

They only played one league match at home before the start of October, playing six of their opening seven matches away. They failed to win any of their opening seven matches, losing four of them, and sat bottom of the table in the early stages before Robins inspired a brilliant turnaround that led to a 5th place finish. The club had the takeover of the club by Doug King from Sisu to deal with and fresh fears over their future at the CBS Arena when Mike Ashley bought the stadium.

Despite these challenges and distractions, they are just one win away from a return to the top flight. Whelan is full of praise for Robins and his players, stating that the football club has been under a cloud during Mark Robins’ time there, and it must have been difficult for him to prepare for football matches with everything that’s going on in the background.

Overall, Wilson and Whelan both point out the incredible culture at Coventry City, with a lot of the lads being there for the entire four years Wilson has been on the team. According to Wilson, the club brought in 14-15 players in the season he first joined, and that core group has stayed together, making it a massive part of their success. Coventry City now awaits its playoff finals, hoping to seal the promotion.
