Derby is the cheapest city to buy pint of beer in the UK, new research claims

A new survey says that for the second year running Derby is the cheapest place to buy a pint of beer with an average cost of £3 – almost half the cost of a London pint which is £5.90 – and despite an overall rise in the cost-of-living.

New research from personal finance comparison site, finder.com has revealed that the average cost of a pint in the UK has increased to £4.21 in 2023 from £4.15 last year. But the price of the humble pint in Derby has remained the same.

The research, which was carried out ahead of UK Beer Day which falls on June 15, found that Derby is the most affordable city for drinking in the UK.

Kingston upon Hull (£3.32) closely follows as the second cheapest pint with Aberdeen (£3.43) taking third spot. The fourth cheapest destination for a pint is Sunderland (£3.50), whilst Stoke-on-Trent takes fifth place (£3.56).

Those looking at Derby’s joint place at No 1 will surely be wondering where you can buy a pint with such a low price tag. In fact, we were curious about exactly the same. Readers will know that it is not unusual for a pint to cost upwards of £5 at a number of city centre watering holes so have you already spotted where the cheapest pints are?

Following last year’s survey, it emerged that the Babington Arms in Babington Lane and the Brunswick Inn in Railway Terrace were among the cheapest pints in the city for certain products. But is that still the case?
