Devon Magistrates: 27 men and women before the courts

A man caught riding an e-scooter while over the cannabis limit and a defendant who threw away a front door key feature in this week’s round-up from the magistrates court.

Devon’s magistrates courts sentence people for a wide range of criminal offences. They can impose unlimited fines, bans, community orders and up to a year in prison.

Here DevonLive looks at recent hearings at the magistrates’ courts in Exeter, Newton Abbot and Barnstaple.

MAY 9

Joshua Edwin Charles Greenaway, c/o Shakespeare Road, Exeter. Age: 31. On 13/08/2022 at Exeter assaulted a male by beating him. Plea: Guilty. Community order made. Have treatment for alcohol dependency. Fined £40. Rehabilitation Activity Requirement for 20 days.

Ryan Anthony Holland, Boutport Street, Barnstaple. Age: 28. On 26/11/2022 at Barnstaple drove a motor vehicle, namely E-Scooter, on a road, namely Silver Street, Barnstaple, when the proportion of a controlled drug, namely cannabis in blood, namely 7mcg, exceeded the specified limit. Plea: Guilty. Community order made. Fined £120. Disqualified for holding or obtaining a driving licence for 12 months.
