Door may just have opened for Liverpool to hijack ‘perfect’ PL star’s big move to Arsenal

Arsenal’s failure to agree a fee with West Ham United for Declan Rice may ‘open the door’ for Liverpool.

That’s according to Football Transfers, who claim that although Rice has agreed personal terms with the Gunners, a move could still be some way off. And unless Arsenal meet West Ham’s asking price, that will reportedly remain the case.

It’s claimed that the driver behind this could actually be Rice himself. Although he’s said to be keen to move on, the England man also reportedly wants to see his current club well embursed for his departure.

According to Football Transfers, the delay in Arsenal meeting the Hammers’ wishes could now lead to a ‘hijack’ from a trio of clubs. All of Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Manchester United are said to be lurking with intent.

With the assertion that Rice has in fact agreed terms with ‘multiple clubs’ you have to wonder if one of them could indeed be the Reds.

‘Perfect’ Rice out of Liverpool’s reach

Had Liverpool secured Champions League football for next season, Rice may have been on their list this summer. But regardless of what European competition they were in, we just don’t see the Reds financing such a deal.

There have been reports that the 24-year-old could cost as much as £100m. As Liverpool’s imminent ‘bargain’ capture of Alexis Mac Allister goes to show, they aren’t even considering spending such figures on anyone this summer.

Now that they know they’ll be in the Europa League next season, that feeling will only be amplified further.

Put simply, there’s surely absolutely zero chance of Liverpool muscling in on this one.

Without the interest of the trio of big hitters mentioned in this report, maybe the Reds would have some hope. But Arsenal and United regularly spend more than Liverpool. And Bayern are, well, Bayern. Up against those three, you feel their energy would be better spent elsewhere.

That doesn’t mean Rice wouldn’t be an ideal signing, though. He’s been labelled as the ‘perfect’ midfielder for Jurgen Klopp and he’s come on leaps and bounds this year alone.

But whether Arsenal end up agreeing a fee with West Ham or not, we don’t think they have to worry too much about an approach from Liverpool.
