Everton job same as Burnley for Dyche amid transfer fund ‘issues’

Tony Cascarino believes Sean Dyche has found himself in the same situation at Everton as he had at Burnley, with the club set for another relegation battle next year.

The Toffees boss ran a famously tight ship at Turf Moor for a decade with little in the way of transfer funds compared to rivals, and with “issues” mooted regarding what’s available to spend this summer it is a similar set of circumstances.

While suggesting that if Everton sign six players during the window they will need to have a minimum of four be successful at Goodison Park next season Cascarino reckons it is going to be another struggle either way.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Sunday (25 June) Cascarino told Natalie Sawyer: “I think it’ll be the same again, I think it’ll be just keeping themselves up. I don’t think there’s much more there at the moment…

“There seems to be some issues around transfer funds available for Sean Dyche…

“It feels like he’s managing a good version of Burnley, and Everton aren’t that, they’re a huge club in the history of the game in England.

He went on: “Managing this team is going to prove just as difficult [as at Burnley] because he’s going to have his hands tied to a degree… Sean Dyche is going to be tested right to the very end of this season. It’s a very difficult team to manage at the moment.”

The prospect of signing six players seems tough, and it is probably going to take a high-profile sale for the third transfer window running to fund it.

Richarlison went a year ago and Anthony Gordon left in January so if Amadou Onana or Jordan Pickford move on this year it will be a depressing pattern for many fans.

There are finally moves occurring at the top of the club and MSP Sports Capital are bringing in investment to help complete the new stadium build.

But it is going to take time for the overhaul of the club’s set up to filter down to the team in a positive way so it looks like Dyche will have his work cut out.

He showed he can get results in reduced circumstances last season, and has already made the decision to let the likes of Conor Coady and Yerry Mina leave, so if he is able to bring in even two or three targets of his own it could improve matters from the final day escape.

What is for sure though is that if he doesn’t get more in the goalscoring department this time around the club will be taking a huge risk.
