Everton news and transfers LIVE – Mohammed Kudus latest, Mohammed Salisu claim, Ryan Kent claim

Hello and welcome to the ECHO’s dedicated Everton news and transfers blog on Monday, May 22.

Everton are one game away from rubber-stamping Premier League safety after they were given a significant boost in their ongoing relegation scrap on Sunday afternoon. Having picked up a precious draw at Wolves on Saturday afternoon, the Blues watched on as struggling Leeds United were soundly beaten by West Ham United.

As speculation over would-be signings continue to spiral, Everton have been credited with an interest in the soon-to-be free agent Ryan Kent – who will leave Rangers this summer.

Elsewhere, on-loan Preston frontman, Tom Cannon, reportedly has the Lilywhites and Blackburn Rovers chasing his signature.

Kent ‘talks’

Everton are reportedly one of three clubs to have held talks with Ryan Kent.

That’s according to TEAMtalk, who are reporting that Sheffield United and Burnley have also held talks with the Rangers winger over a move during the summer transfer window.

Kent will not be signing a new deal at Ibrox, ending his time with the club after 33 goals and 57 assists in 218 games, and is set to become a free agent.

Tarkowski sends Calvert-Lewin message to Everton squad

James Tarkowski spoke of his empathy toward Dominic Calvert-Lewin over the striker’s fitness battle as he suggested now is the time for another Everton player to ‘do a job’.

Tarkowski praised Calvert-Lewin for the commitment he has shown while fighting injury throughout this season. From what then boss Frank Lampard described as a “freak” knee problem to hamstring and shoulder issues, the 26-year-old has had rotten luck this season.

Everton manager Sean Dyche is now awaiting assessment of a new hamstring complaint that forced the England international off against Wolverhampton Wanderers – a game he had overcome a groin issue to start.

Speaking after the draw at Molineux, Tarkowski said of Calvert-Lewin and his latest setback: “I feel for him. He works ever so hard, looks after himself, does everything he can to stay fit and keep on the pitch.”

Kudus ‘set to leave Ajax’

Mohammed Kudus has reportedly informed Ajax of his intention to leave the club this summer after rejecting a one-year contract extension.

Everton were linked with a £15million move for the Ghana international last summer and he later admitted that he came close to joining the Goodison Park club.

And now according to The Athletic, Kudus, is under contract at the Johan Cruyff Arena until 2025, is being tracked by Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle United.

Everton ‘can do better’ than Salisu and Adams

Everton ‘can do better’ than signing Southampton duo Mohammed Salisu and Che Adams this summer.

The Southampton pair have been linked with moves to Goodison Park this summer following the club’s relegation from the Premier League.

But journalist Paul Brown, speaking to GIVEMESPORT, said: “I think I’d like to think that Everton can do better than that. That’s not to disparage either player, but Everton really, really need a proven, regular goal scorer in the Premier League.

“They thought they were getting that in Neal Maupay, and I’m not sure Che Adams has a better goalscoring record than Maupay, really.”
