Everton target Diallo loan amid race for Manchester United ace

Everton are “keen” to sign Amad Diallo on loan from Manchester United next season after his strong season on loan with Sunderland, the Northern Echo reports.

The Ivorian attacker appeared to have lost his way after a £37.2million move from Atalanta to Old Trafford in January 2021 [Sky Sports], followed by a difficult six months on loan at Rangers under Giovanni van Bronckhorst last season.

But after netting 14 times for Tony Mowbray’s Black Cats as they reached the Championship play-off semi-finals he is back in demand, with Sunderland eager to take him back and West Ham also interested.

But the Northern Echo reports: “Everton are also believed to be keen to sign Amad on a temporary basis next season, along with newly-promoted Burnley, who will target the loan market as a key part of their summer strengthening.”

Dynamic

In the financial climate around Goodison Park the chances of needing to exploit loans and free transfers this summer seem logically fairly high.

Diallo, back on track after his stand-out campaign in the North-East, could therefore be a very attractive option as he looks ready to make the step up to the Premier League.

Everton have been in desperate need of more options in attack for months after failing to add anybody in January despite the season falling apart, while selling Anthony Gordon to Newcastle.

Unless the 20-year-old has built a particularly strong affinity for Sunderland it seems likely that he would go for a top flight option next, and if Erik ten Hag is prepared to sanction another season on loan they would probably want to see what he can do at that level on a more sustained basis – he has only made three appearances in the division so far.

On the face of it, the side that finished 17th and seems to be forever mired in one controversy or another might look to be at a disadvantage in this race against the Europa Conference League finalists, and the project under Vincent Kompany at Turf Moor.

But Sean Dyche has avoided disaster at Goodison Park and is now set to build something at Everton, where the relative paucity of options could give Diallo the greater opportunity to showcase his talents.

However, if the Toffees boss is successful in such a pursuit the hope will be that it outshines the last loan deal from Old Trafford, following the disappointing arrival of Donny van de Beek last season.
