Fallen Arsenal star backed to join Man City to become Guardiola’s answer to Klopp’s best Liverpool signing

Kieran Tierney could make an impression similar to that of his compatriot Andy Robertson at Liverpool if he was to leave Arsenal for Man City, it has been claimed.

Tierney has lost his place as Arsenal’s starting left-back this season following the arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko from Man City. Therefore, the Scotland international will have to weigh up his future heading into the summer transfer window.

Several clubs have already been linked with the former Celtic product. Coincidentally, Zinchenko’s former club Man City have been mentioned as possible takers for Tierney.

Alternatively, he could be targeted by clubs like Newcastle and Aston Villa. But according to Stan Collymore, Tierney should only be looking at Man City.

Collymore told Caught Offside: “Tierney has struggled with injuries during his career, but if he can get a handle on that he is without a doubt a top-level player, and if he went to the Etihad I think he could be to Man City what Andy Robertson is to Liverpool.

“Tierney is definitely capable of being that under-the-radar type of signing that could go on to be one of the club’s most reliable players. If he did end up going to Man City, it would be a big blow to Newcastle United who have been heavily linked with him for several months.

“The Scotsman would be great for Newcastle; he’d fit their profile perfectly. But if he has the choice of them or Man City, he is likely to pick the latter, for obvious reasons.”

Kieran Tierney facing tough transfer decision

Liverpool signed Robertson from Hull City for just £8m back in 2017. In terms of value for money, it would be hard to think of a better signing in the Jurgen Klopp era at Anfield.

Obviously, Man City have a good success rate with their own transfers in recent years. But the left-back position is still somewhere that could do with strengthening, especially after they allowed Joao Cancelo to leave on loan for Bayern Munich in January.

There have been claims that Arsenal might even make a move for Cancelo. However, Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel believes the Portugal international is now settled in Munich.

If he makes his move there permanent, then both Man City and Arsenal could be in the market for a new left-back in the summer. The former might be encouraged to bid for Tierney, whose exit from the latter would leave them requiring new competition for Zinchenko.

Tierney’s contract with Arsenal is supposed to last until 2026. He will be 26 years old by the time next season starts, but where he will be spending what should be the prime of his career remains to be seen.
