Fans rush to support Coventry singer Hazel O’Connor as she ‘works hard on recovery’

Singer Hazel O’Connor has been left ‘overwhelmed’ by the support of fans as she continues to ‘work hard’ on her recovery. It comes after the ’80s singer suffered a severe bleed on the brain last January.

Hazel, from Coventry, has been in recovery since last year after she collapsed at her home in France. Doctors believed she would need to have brain surgery but, on being moved to a larger hospital, experts found the bleeding had receded, reported the BBC.

A friend recently posted to say the city-born singer had been ‘working hard’ on her recovery. Hazel shared earlier this month that she was taking part in ‘Musicotherapy’ with her friend Benoît Pont.

Hazel, 68, said she feels ‘grateful and overwhelmed’ by the support from fans and continues to make ‘great progress’ in her recovery. She is ‘determined’ to keep improving and getting better, her friend added.

Hazel rose to fame with punk classics such as ‘D-Days’ and ‘Big Brother.’ In 1980, she starred in the film Breaking Glass, alongside Jonathan Pryce and Phil Daniels. In 2021, she performed her only show of the year in the city as part of celebrations for the UK City of Culture.

A post on Facebook reads: “Hazel is working hard, continuing her journey back to the phenomenal lady we know and love. I first met Hazel in 2000 on a bench at Glastonbury after her set with Cormac de Barra in the Theatre Tent.
