“Farmraiser” event helps fund cancer researchYou’ve heard of fund raisers, but have you ever been to a “farmraiser”?

Well, now is your chance as the second annual One Goal Farmraiser will be held July 22 from 7-10 p.m. at Yellowood Farm, 6780 Lithopolis-Winchester Road, Canal Winchester. The event raises money for the Pelotonia bicycle tour, which uses the funds to fight cancer. The One Goal Farmraiser supports two local women – Cori Rowley and Marie Gibbons – who are riding in the Pelotonia bicycle tour this August.

Last year the event raised more than $3,000 that was donated to Pelotonia to support cancer research.

The One Goal Farmraiser features free music, food, and beer donated by Piada, Local Cantina, and Brewdog. Music will be performed by Red Michel, who plays a mixture of folk and storytelling songs similar to Cat Stevens or Jim Croce. The event is for all ages. Kids under 12 are admitted free.

Rowley, and her husband Benjamin, own Yellowood Farm. Both Rowley and Gibbons are actively involved in the Canal Winchester community and the larger Central Ohio area in various leadership and service roles.

Gibbons is a 15 year Pelotonia rider who has raised over $31,000 for Pelotonia. She works for the OSUCCC James and sees the life-changing impact the money raised through Pelotonia has on innovative cancer research.

Rowley is a three year Pelotonia rider who has raised over $6,700 for Pelotonia. Her small farm has become a favorite in the community and she believes it is critical to use your platform, no matter the size, to do good in the world.

Both riders, who are hosting the Farmraiser, live in Canal Winchester and have had friends and family affected by a cancer.

Gibbons and Rowley came up with the idea for the Farmraiser while volunteering in the community together.

“It felt right to host a gathering in the Canal Winchester area where all proceeds would benefit Pelotonia, as the rural roads here are often a favorite of cyclists training for the ride,” said Gibbons. “Yellowood Farm is situated right outside of downtown historic Canal Winchester, making it easy to access for guests. Thanks go to local partners Brewdog, Local Cantina, and Piada, guests will enjoy a delicious dinner and drinks as well as live music from Red Michel.”
