Former Man United Ace Lee Martin Signs for 17th Club at Age 36

Former Manchester United player Lee Martin, aged 36, has recently signed for his 17th club. Martin, who hails from Devon, made three appearances for the Red Devils’ first team after graduating from their renowned academy.

Under the leadership of legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson, Martin made his United debut in a League Cup match against Barnet in 2005. He featured in the competition again a few seasons later when the team faced Coventry. Additionally, Martin played his one and only Premier League game in a 1-0 victory over Hull in May 2009. Although he was an unused substitute in two Champions League matches, his time at United was limited.

After leaving Old Trafford, Martin joined teams in the Championship before eventually finding himself in non-league football.

Martin’s Recent Move

Having spent the previous season at Dover Athletic in the National League South, Martin has now signed for Ramsgate, a team in the eighth tier of English football. The versatile winger will be playing in the Isthmian League South East Division.

Martin’s Journey in Football

Martin joined Manchester United at the age of 16 for a fee of £1 million from Wimbledon in 2003. Notably, he had also aroused interest from top clubs like Arsenal, Liverpool, and Tottenham.

During his time at United, Martin went on several loan spells at various clubs such as Royal Antwerp, Rangers, Stoke, Plymouth Argyle, Sheffield United, and Nottingham Forest. In 2009, he sealed a permanent move to Ipswich Town for around £1.5 million.

Martin spent four years at Portman Road and was loaned out to Charlton for the 2010-11 season. Following this, he embarked on a three-year stint with Millwall, with a loan spell at Northampton prior to his release in 2016. Martin then had permanent spells at Gillingham and Exeter before venturing into non-league football with Ebbsfleet in 2020. He spent two years there before joining Dover last year.

Martin Looks Back on His Premier League Debut

During an interview with Planet Football last year, Martin reflected on his Premier League debut and revealed that he already knew he would be leaving Manchester United. Despite the emerging talents of players like Federico Macheda and Danny Welbeck at the time, Martin considered the opportunity to be his last chance and an added bonus for performing well after his return.

Overall, Lee Martin has had an eventful career, experiencing various levels of football and playing for multiple clubs throughout his journey.
