Full list of Wirral pollinator sites that won’t be mowed

Now it’s June the mowing season will resume however the council won’t be cutting some sites in Wirral to keep these spaces blossoming.

In line with the council’s Climate Emergency Response, the steps are being taken to prioritise pollinators. However, during the last two years, some sites are no longer cut due to budget savings.

The council’s initial Pollinator Action Plan, agreed in February 2020, aimed to trial two locations as pollinator sites. There are now a total of approximately 65 pollinators and wildflower sites.

Depending on the location of a verge, pollinators are prioritised using various methods including planting pollinator friendly plants, not mowing grass verges, and reduced weed removal. The council continues to add to the list of pollinator sites each year.

A pollinator or wildflower site is an area of land that has naturally occurring wildflowers and is maintained with reduced cutting to help wildflowers grow and provide a habitat for pollinator such as bees, butterflies and flies.
