Great Scott gets guard of honour from Radcliffe AC members

The club had a fantastic turnout of 34 runners at the four-mile Haigh Hall Race, with age-group wins for Iain Harris (MV70) and Sheila McNulty (FV75).

It was the fourth race in the Central Lancashire Grand Prix, which is contested by local clubs, and also part of RAC’s road and trail championship.

John Gibbs led home the sea of yellow and black vests, finishing 19th in 24mins 39secs. Behind him, there were great performances all round as people clocked personal-bests or great times returning from injury and illness.

Rob Shiels was the club’s next finisher, running 25:52 on the two-lap course on the trails, paths and roads around the historic hall. He was followed by Craig Norman. who clocked 26:28 and Ian Swan in 27:21.

Both the men’s and women’s A teams finished fifth.

Gary Adkins was a fantastic 79th in 3:06:26 at the hot and hilly Rob Burrows Leeds Marathon. Two members were in action at the Leeds Half Marathon – Si Foulkes ran 1:33:54, while Gail Champion clocked 2:13:55, knocking more than eight minutes off her time from last year’s Great North Run.

Paul Benson completed the Eyam Half Marathon in 2:00:19, while Alison Howarth described the Happy Valley Trail Half Marathon in Bollington, Cheshire as the “hardest race she had ever done”. She was third FV50, completing the course which has 1,360 feet of climbing in 2:54:50.

Also in Cheshire, Elaine Bailey was second FV60 after clocking 28:18 at the Middlewich 5km.

The improving Andy Wheeler marked two years since he suffered a heart attack by running 34:11 at Heaton Parkrun, knocking two minutes off his time from a fortnight earlier. He was joined by Mark Taylor (21:45), Sheila Jones (first FV65 – 24:42) and Ethan Malone (25:00).
