  • Harry Potter Director David Yates launches Create Studios’ new home

Create Studios celebrated a milestone moment with the grand opening of their new studio space at the Carriage Works.

The launch event for the Swindon arts organisation was attended by film director David Yates, best known for the Harry Potter series.

The occasion was a double celebration, commemorating not only Create Studios’ four decades of work but also paying tribute to the vibrant and diverse creative community in Wiltshire.

A spokesperson said: “The presence of David Yates, award-winning film director and a beneficiary of Create Studios’ support, added a special touch to the event.

“Known for his directorial brilliance in the globally acclaimed Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts film series, Yates has not only achieved tremendous success but also continued to support aspiring filmmakers worldwide.

“Attendees were enthralled as they engaged with Yates during his one-hour talk with young filmmakers and creators from Swindon.”

Create says the establishment of this new studio space is the culmination of a collaborative effort involving Create Studios, Swindon Borough Council and Arts Council England. The generous support from these entities, along with the Towns Fund, enabled Create Studios to create a dedicated media hub space for training and production in Swindon, the first of its kind in the area.

The aim is to use the state-of-the-art facility to reach national and international audiences through a variety of production activities. The studio plans to double the number of young people trained through its talent programs while also providing exhibition and collaboration spaces for cultural projects that celebrate Swindon’s rich industrial and social heritage, fostering civic pride.

David Yates said: “Create has had an extraordinary path, and I wouldn’t be on it without everything that you provided for me. And what you continue to provide for filmmakers coming through.

“It’s wonderful to see it still going stronger than ever. It’s a beautiful thing, thank you.”

Create Studios says its new home signifies a significant step forward in their mission to support emerging talent and contribute to the creative landscape of Swindon and beyond.

It says the launch is a testament to the dedication and passion that Create Studios has consistently exhibited throughout its 40-year history, and pledges to continue to empower individuals and provide a platform for artists, filmmakers, and creatives to thrive in the rapidly evolving creative industries.
