Hull FC v St Helens LIVE: First half action from Reserves clash

Hello and welcome to our live coverage as Hull FC take on St Helens in the Reserves Championship from the University of Hull. It’s the first time the Black and Whites second string side has been in action in nearly a month, with a stern test presenting itself against one of the very best junior setups in the country.

Michael Shenton’s side have beaten London, Bradford, Warrington, Newcastle, and Salford so far this year, also getting a walkover win over Leigh. Their one and only defeat came at Leeds.

Featuring some of the club’s best and most promising young players, Brad Dwyer joins the Reserves side today, looking to get some decent minutes under his belt after featuring off the bench in Super League in recent weeks. As always, stay with us for all the live action as it gets underway.

Tony Smith praises attitude of Hull FC Reserve players

Tony Smith has backed Hull FC’s Reserves players to keep developing and show their potential against St Helens this Saturday afternoon. The Black and White youngsters are all chomping at the bit to play, with Smith praising their conduct and attitude once again in training after a frustrating period.

“We’re excited about it,” Smith told Hull Live. “I feel for them. It’s been a difficult little period having not played for some time. They do a great job for us. They get out, and they train. They simulate our opponents each week. There’s no grizzling or griping from them. They just want to play rugby league.

“These young boys, there are a lot of them coming through that are our next generation. They’re going to crack it in the next year or two.”

Now then

After scoring 304 points in the six games they’ve played so far (352 on the table with the 48-0 walkover v Leigh), Hull need a stern test and they’ll get it here. St Helens beat Hull 22-42 in the Academy game last week and their Reserves side will also pose many threats. It should be a cracking contest. Stay tuned.
