I tried the tasty, affordable food from The Little Bun Shop on Grimsby Road and I’ll definitely be back

A brand new bun shop offering a wide variety of affordable breakfast and lunch options has officially opened in Cleethorpes.

Situated beside the L&C Fabrics shop on Grimsby Road – at the Barcroft Street junction – The Little Bun Shop opened to the public on Tuesday, June 6.

The menu features a range of tasty options, from hot and cold filled buns, paninis and wraps to jacket potatoes and toasted teacakes. Each item is made fresh to order and prepared in front of you. What’s more, it’s all super affordable, which is ideal during a cost of living crisis.

In my opinion, you just can’t beat a healthy, filling and delicious sandwich to keep you going on a busy day. So when I heard about the new bun shop opening, I was eager to get down there and give the food a try for myself.

Owner Lisa Diable decided six months ago that she wanted to open The Little Bun Shop, shortly after moving her nine-year-strong business, L&C Fabrics, into the premises from its previous shop on Manchester Street.

She told Grimsby Live: “We wanted to make sure that we provided good quality, fresh food that’s affordable.

“We don’t re-warm anything, we don’t use microwaves, and we make everything fresh. We’re trying to be a bit more modern in the way we’re cooking our food – we use air-fryers rather than griddle frying. It’s a bit healthier as well. All food is made in front of the customer.”

After meeting the lovely Lisa, I headed to the bun shop to choose what to order. I opted for a ham bun with rocket leaves, cucumber, red onion and coleslaw, along with a slice of quiche and coconut cake (both special items that aren’t on the menu), and a latte.

It all came to £8.25, which I thought was really generously priced considering everything I got.

Heading home, I tucked in to my lunch. The fillings in the bun were delicious and the ham was thickly sliced and such good quality – it was clear it came from a local butchers, rather than the wafer-thin slices you get at the supermarket.

The quiche was generously filled with cheese and chive and was packed full of flavour. As for the slab of coconut cake, this finished everything off perfectly. It was easily the best cake I’ve had in a long time.

My verdict:

My lunch from The Little Bun Shop filled me up for the rest of the day – and for £8.25, I really don’t think you can go wrong.

OK, so meal deals at your average supermarket made up of a sandwich, snack and drink cost in the region of £4, but the portions are much smaller – and often don’t include hot drinks. So I think for what I got and considering how filling it was, the price was very reasonable.

I liked the fact that everything here is made fresh to order and you can build your own lunch from the fillings in front of you, and see it all being made. There’s a private car park for customers for added convenience, and they’ve made an effort to cut down on the use of plastic, which I love.

It’s clear that lots of care has been taken to ensure everything here is fresh and that people’s individual circumstances are being taken into account amid the cost of living crisis. From talking to Lisa, it’s clear that customers are at the very heart of her new business.

The Little Bun Shop is simple, affordable and perfect for a quick lunch when you’re on the go – and I’ll definitely be back.
