Jason Stockwood on new Grimsby Town stadium, next season, Wrexham and more

Grimsby Town’s chairman has bared all ahead of the new season, speaking about a new stadium, the upcoming season, Wrexham’s return and the future of the club.

Jason Stockwood took charge alongside Andrew Pettit back in 2021 before leading the Mariners to a remarkable return to the football league a year later. Since then, they’ve made history in the FA up beating the likes of Southampton to become the only team to have won against five teams above them in the league pyramid in the same cup run.

Recently, Blundell Park was chosen to launch a Government initiative to help bring more regulation to clubs up and down the country. Having finished 11th last season, Jason and others are now looking to kick on and improve on last year’s results.

However, the future doesn’t involve a new stadium for now. He said: “There are no plans for a new stadium, we have stated that we will never talk about stuff we can’t deliver so until we get through other priorities this is not something we’re looking at.”

He added: “Andrew, Debbie and I are looking at a 10 year plan for the club, but at the moment there is no intention for a new stadium.” With a positive perspective, Jason is hoping to build on last year’s success. “We have said every day that we are looking to improve on last year.

“That’s our reality and we will do whatever we can to keep showing forward momentum. We are ambitious to get out the league, but money alone does not get you there. Carlisle got promoted with one of the smallest budgets, not to mention Luton’s return to the premier league.
