Jevani Brown could be re-signed by Exeter City this summer

Exeter City manager Gary Caldwell has revealed there is a slim chance that Jevani Brown might still be a Grecian next season. The Jamaican’s contract expires this summer and has not been offered a deal to extend his stay at St James Park.

The 28-year-old made 81 appearances for City since arriving in 2021, scoring 21 goals. He had scored 14 goals in 32 games in the 2022/23 season before an off-field incident curtailed his campaign.

Brown was arrested following an incident in Queen Street in Exeter city centre in the early hours of Thursday, February 2. He subsequently pleaded guilty to one count of assaulting a woman, but denied a second charge of assaulting a second woman.

The striker is due to stand trial on that charge on July 7 at Exeter Magistrates’ Court. He was released on unconditional bail by the court following his last appearance on March 23.

Brown has not featured for the Grecians since his arrest in the early hours of February 2. While he has continued to train with the squad, he has not been considered for selection.

Despite being named by his teammates at the club’s end of season awards as the player of the season, Brown was not offered a new deal to extend his stay in Devon. But Caldwell has said that there is a possibility still that the forward does continue his career with the Grecians.

Asked whether the decision not to offer him a contract was entirely based on footballing reasons, Caldwell said: “He has been released but it is something that might come back up, but we will have to see how that goes over the summer.”
