Joe Samba to headline Rocking the Docks concert June 28

Guitarist Joe Samba isn’t limited to a genre. The Massachusetts native successfully fuses reggae and rock ‘n’ roll to create a contagious beat.

The singer-songwriter will take the stage at 6 p.m., Wednesday, June 28, at the Rocking the Docks concert summer series on the scenic Cape May-Lewes Ferry grounds in Lewes.

Samba comes by his talent naturally. His father played bass in a funk band, and his two brothers also played bass. At age 7, Samba joined his dad on stage to belt out “I Feel Good” by James Brown.

“It’s hard to stay still when Joe performs,” said Matt VanBelle, organizer of Rocking the Docks, which takes place on 10 consecutive Wednesdays. Samba is the second performer.

“Joe has a lot of soul, and his Caribbean island vibe is so full of energy,” VanBelle said. “There’s a reason why his fans are called ‘Sambananas.’”

Dry Reef is the opening act for the June 28 concert. Based in Philadelphia, the band’s sound blends reggae, surf music and rock.

VIP ticket holders can also enter the grounds at 5 p.m. and participate in a meet-and-greet in the private tent.

All attendees can purchase food from Grain on the Rocks, and there will be beverage stations.
