Joy-Anna Duggar criticized for unsafe parenting just days after welcoming third child

Earlier this month, Joy-Anna Duggar welcomed her third child, a boy for whom she chose the Duggar-esque name Gunner.

It may take some time for Young Gunner to be able to handle a firearm, but his name is a clear reflection of the Duggar family’s love of all things gun-related.

Either way, Joy seems to be loving life as a mother of three, and she’s been posting regular updates on her new bundle of joy.

But she hasn’t forgotten about her other kids, of course, and Joy’s latest post put the spotlight on her daughter Evelyn.

“Making hay today”, Joy writes with the photo above.

“The kids got to ride the tractor and learned how to store hay for the winter.”

Joy also shared a photo of Gunner, apparently watching the proceedings with her.

Now the whole afternoon looks completely harmless and sane, but mom-shaming the Duggars is one of the Internet’s favorite pastimes, so commentators were quick to toast Joy’s parenting decisions.

“Shouldn’t you be home from the hot sun with a newborn[?]asked one person according to the British tabloid The sun.

“Children are cute, but bare feet on a tractor and on a farm is a recipe for big trouble. Take it from someone who grew up in the farm country,” another added.

“Little girl has shoes on when she’s around farm equipment, please be careful! Nice pictures with daddy,” a third agreed.

Fortunately, Joy has been a Duggar all her life, so she’s probably used to pointless criticism for everything she does.

As for Gunner’s name, it appears to have been a last-minute decision.

A few weeks before the boy’s birth, Joy indicated she wanted to name him James in honor of Austin’s late grandfather.

“To give you a taste, we definitely use James as a first name or middle name. I think it will probably be used as a middle name,” Joy wrote in response to a fan’s question:

“Austin’s papaya passed away a few years ago and he told him before he died that our next boy would have ‘James’ in it. He agreed that we would.

“We’re going to get James out there somewhere to mix,” she continued.

“His name was Edwin James Forsyth, and it was about using his name and honoring him that way.”

In the end, they went with James as a middle name, so they still pay homage to Austin’s grandpa.

And if he were alive, he’d probably be thankful Joy and Austin didn’t name their son Edwin.

It’s bad enough that there’s a boy named Spurgeon in this family!
