Keith Hogg: North Berwick mourns passing of rugby club stalwart

Keith Hogg passed away aged 66 on Saturday after a long-term illness.

Mr Hogg played a key role in North Berwick Rugby Club for many years, organising school-level rugby and minis.

He also latterly assumed the role of director of rugby at the club.

Mr Hogg became ill shortly after the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic and was eventually hospitalised.

He leaves behind his wife Victoria and their sons Alasdair, Ben and Matt.

A spokesperson for North Berwick Rugby Club said: “Keith was a long-standing club man, running school rugby, minis and then latterly in his role as director of rugby.

“He fell sick soon after the start of the pandemic and was eventually hospitalised.

“He had played a key role in the club’s plans for post-Covid rugby delivery and was always a great mentor and role model to players, coaches and club officials.

“A lover of rugby of both codes, Keith will be truly missed.

“Our thoughts are with Victoria and their three sons.”

Mr Hogg was also a fan of rugby league and played a prominent role in the running of the sport in the country.

He was the chair of Scotland Rugby League from 2009 until 2021, when he stepped down due to his health issues.

Having previously worked with the London Broncos, he “jumped at the opportunity to help better the sport he loved in Scotland”.

Ollie Cruickshank, former operations director, who served during Mr Hogg’s tenure, said: “Keith was an integral part in rebuilding Scotland Rugby League and his passion and enthusiasm for the sport was second to none.
