Kent weather: The towns that will see the highest temperatures as heat health alert issued
It is again forecast to be a dry and hot day in Kent today (June 24), but it’s set to be even hotter tomorrow. According to the Met Office temperatures could soar to a sizzling 29C in parts of the county.
A yellow heat health alert has been issued for Kent by the government’s UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA). Dr Agostinho Sousa, the UKHSA’s head of extreme events and health protection, said: “This heat health alert means in the coming days we are likely to experience another period of hot weather, so it’s important that everyone takes sensible precautions while enjoying the sun.”
As KentLive reported yesterday (June 23) the county is teetering on the brink of an official heatwave according to forecasters. The Met Office warned of the possibility of “heatwave criteria” being met as a “split” in weather formations sees temperatures soaring in the region.
The far South East is expected to see the hottest temperatures this weekend, peaking at 32C. In Kent it started off sunny in most of the county today but cloud is expected in the northern, western and south western parts of Kent from around lunchtime.

That will continue to spread across the county today. But Dover, Margate, Rochester and Westerham will have sunny intervals or full sun and in the early evening it should be full sunshine for most of Kent to the end of the day.
Top temperature today is 27C in Rochester, Maidstone and Dartford. Westerham should see 26C with Canterbury, Tunbridge Wells and Margate at 25C. Bit cooler at Dover at 20C.
The sizzle starts tomorrow with full sun from early morning and not a cloud in sight all day. From noon the temperatures will hit 29C in Dartford, with 28C in Rochester and Maidstone. It will be 24C in Dover but all other areas from between 26C to 27C.
By 1pm that 29C scorcher will also be felt in Maidstone and Rochester and an hour later, it will hit Canterbury. Still cooler at the coast at Dover, with 25C.
Tunbridge Wells, Westerham and Tenterden will climb as high as 27C tomorrow. Temperatures in those hottest parts of Kent will not start to fall until around 4pm.
By Monday temperatures will fall with Dartford, Rochester and Maidstone at just 22C and other parts one or two degrees cooler. There will be sunny intervals across Kent in the morning but by 4pm all of Kent is forecast to be cloudy.
Matthew Lehnert said: “Official heatwave criteria could be met for parts of southern and eastern England by the end of the weekend. It’s worth noting the temperatures in the south will remain quite high overnight this weekend, so it’s important to look out for those who may be more vulnerable to heat.”
UKHSA’s Dr Sousa also said: “Forecast temperatures this week could primarily impact those over the age of 65 or those with pre-existing health conditions. If you have friends, family or neighbours who are more vulnerable, it is important to check in on them and ensure they are aware of the forecasts and are following the necessary advice.”
The outlook for Monday to Wednesday in the region is dry, becoming cloudy on Monday. On Tuesday expect patchy rain then becoming brighter with a chance of showers. But by Wednesday there will be outbreaks of rain. It will feel fresher with temperatures closer to normal. Could be breezy by the coast.
