Lancashire restaurant named best in England for second year running

Doubler Michelin-Starred Moor Hall has yet another accolade to add to its ever-growing trophy cupboard. The fine dining establishment has been named the best restaurant in England at the The Estrella Damm National Restaurant Awards 2023.

The venue, which is set in five acres in Aughton on the outskirts of Ormskirk, was also named second-best in the UK, pipped to the top spot by Wales’ Ynyshir. There was also further success for Lancashire’s thriving food scene, with the Ribble Valley’s Parkers Arms confirmed as the UK’s best gastropub.

Head chef Stosie Madi and co-owner Kathy Smith guided the Newton-in-Bowland pub, which is located on the cusp of the Forest of Bowland and boasts amazing views, to an impressive 12th place in the top 100. It is the highest-ranked gastropub in the top 100, with the top 20 dominated by fine dining venues.

Michelin-Starred Northcote in Langho jumped 28 places from last year, to 68.

Meanwhile, Simon Rogan’s triple Michelin-Starred L’Enclume dropped out of the top 10, slipping to number 30, while fellow Cumbria fine dining restaurant The Forest Side in Grasmere, which also holds a Michelin Star, enters the rankings at 60.

Winners were announced at a ceremony in London on June 12.
