Leeds United news as Steven Gerrard favourite for rivals’ managerial job after Whites links

Leeds United news as Steven Gerrard favourite for rivals’ managerial job after Whites links

Here are the latest Leeds United headlines on Wednesday, June 21.

Steven Gerrard favourite for Sheffield Wednesday job

While Leeds United fans still await news on who their next head coach will be, the managerial merry-go-round has continued to twirl this week. Whites supporters saw Andoni Iraola – a former Leeds target – take the helm at Bournemouth following the ruthless dismissal of Gary O’Neil on the south coast and now another boss linked with the Whites is being talked about for another vacant post.

Sheffield Wednesday’s parting of ways with Darren Moore on Monday was another shock and means that Leeds’ new-found Championship rivals are also in the market for a new boss. If the bookmakers are to be believed, then Steven Gerrard, an early frontrunner for the Elland Road job before speculation cooled off, is a contender for the Owls.

As per our Yorkshire Live colleagues, the bookies have him as an 11/4 favourite for the post at Hillsborough, ahead of Carlos Carvalhal (3/1) and Victor Campelos (4/1). Their list also contains Patrick Vieira (20/1), who is a contender for the Leeds job, plus United’s last boss, Sam Allardyce (33/1).

Victor Orta downplays Leeds United transfer raid after Sevilla appointment

Former Leeds United sporting director Victor Orta has downplayed an approach for Whites’ forward Rodrigo Moreno. The Spanish striker was the standout performer in an otherwise dismal campaign that resulted in relegation to the Championship.

Rodrigo scored 13 times and notched one assist in 31 games in the Premier League last season – his best return since moving to Elland Road. However, the Whites’ relegation has reportedly triggered a £3.5million release clause which has caught the eye of a number of top European clubs.
