Leicester City make ‘contact’ over summer transfer as Kelechi Iheanacho gains interest

City ‘contact PSG’ over transfer

Leicester City are vying with Everton for young PSG midfielder Ayman Kari, according to reports in France.

City are to undergo a revamp of their squad this summer, especially in midfield. Youri Tielemans and Papy Mendy have already left on free transfers, while Wilfred Ndidi, Dennis Praet, and James Maddison could all be sold.

With that rebuild in mind, City have now been linked with an up-and-coming French youth international. Deep-lying playmaker Kari only made his first senior appearance at the end of April, but has caught the eye.

RMC Sport in France say that City and Everton have been in touch with PSG over the 18-year-old, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Ligue 1 side Lorient. He only made five appearances, including in a win over PSG, but they want him back and are said to have a loan deal with an option to buy in place.

City ‘receive’ Iheanacho offer

Turkish giants Besiktas have reportedly made an offer for Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho with the Nigerian’s future at the club up in the air.

Besiktas want a new forward this summer with star striker Cenk Tosun currently injured and with their campaign kicking off sooner than most. After finishing third in the Turkish Super Lig last season, they will enter the Europa Conference League, but have to start in the second qualifying round, which begins on July 29.

Turkish outlet Star say Iheanacho is a player they have targeted, putting forward a loan offer, including a fee of €2m. That would unlikely convince City, who will want to sell Iheanacho for a decent fee if he is to leave.

Celtic transfer claim made

Leicester City’s bid to sign Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor was scuppered by Kieran Tierney’s transfer to Arsenal, Brendan Rodgers has claimed.

The former City boss, now back at Celtic, has revealed that links to McGregor in his first summer at the King Power Stadium had truth behind them. The attacking midfielder had contributed to 60 goals and assists in 160 games in the three seasons Rodgers had at Celtic Park, and the manager felt he would be “perfect” for the Premier League.

However, Rodgers has now said that Celtic were only ever going to sell one of their star names, so when left-back Tierney left for Arsenal in the summer of 2019, McGregor stayed. Shortly after Tierney’s move, McGregor signed a new contract at Celtic, and remains there now, also holding the captain’s armband.

Transfer windows rated

While nobody is through the door at the King Power Stadium yet, plenty are expected to arrive before the end of August. This could be City’s biggest summer of business in years.

They have already lost a host of players and more will be sold over the coming weeks so that a transfer budget can be built up. Once that kitty looks healthy, City will start to spend themselves, hopefully giving Enzo Maresca a squad that can get them straight back into the Premier League.
