After the cut took place at the US Open on Friday, we saw 10 LIV players make it to the weekend with Dustin Johnson top of the bunch. The American still sat four shots back of overnight leader Rickie Fowler though, but DJ has experience of winning this event, something he did back in 2016.
On Moving Day at the third men’s Major of the year, it was in fact Bryson DeChambeau who made the biggest move of all the LIV players, as the 29-year-old fired a two-under-par round to move to three-under for the tournament.
DeChambeau still trails Johnson by two shots though, with DJ struggling on the greens as he shot a one-over-par round of 71 to sit at five-under. On Friday, Johnson made history as he became the only player in the last 30 years to make a quadruple bogey in a US Open round and still shoot par or better. Going into Sunday, he is going to need to shoot low to have any chance of a third Major victory, with Johnson five shots back of Fowler and Wyndham Clark.
With Johnson and DeChambeau inside the top-10, the next LIV player is Cameron Smith, who also sits at three-under alongside DeChambeau. Producing a level-par front nine, the Aussie was slightly inconsistent on the back, as four bogeys and three birdies meant he signed for a one-over round of 71.
Three players from the LIV Golf League sit inside the top-10 then at Los Angeles Country Club and, dropping down three shots, we find Brooks Koepka and Joaquin Niemann at level-par for the tournament. Early in the round, Koepka looked to be threatening but, at the par 3 15th, the shortest hole in US Open history, he four-putted to stall any momentum and a chance at a third US Open title.
