Live as Thornton Road in Bradford shut both ways for ‘police incident’

Police have raced to a serious incident in Bradford on Wednesday afternoon.

West Yorkshire Police have closed Thornton Road in both directions following a “police incident”. It is not clear what the nature of it is at this time but we have asked the force for more details.

What we do know is that Thornton Road has been closed from Rhodesway to Godfrey Street and diversions are in place. There are reports of queuing traffic in the area – which is expected to worsen as we approach rush hour.

Man, 29, seriously injured after being hit by car in Thornton Road, Bradford

A man has been rushed suffered serious injuries after being hit by a car in Bradford today.

Police have shut Thornton Road and Rhodesway in the city in both directions following the accident. The victim, a 29-year-old man, has been rushed to hospital with “serious” injuries and the road currently remains closed.

Police statement as man hospitalised

West Yorkshire Police said: “At 14.17 today officers on patrol came across a road traffic collision on Thornton Road/Rhodesway, Bradford involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

“The male pedestrian aged 29 was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

“The road remains closed at this time.”
