Live Games

We have three live games coming your way on KCLR this weekend.

First up we have the Tailteann Cup quarter-final prelim game of Carlow v New York

The team for the Big Apple is set to touch down in Dublin just after 9 am which gives them plenty of time to prepare for the five o’clock throw-in in Netwatch Cullen Park

That game is brought to you with thanks to Dan Morrissey & Co.

Then at 6 tomorrow Kilkenny take on Wexford in the Glen Dimplex All Ireland senior camogie championship round 1.

Then on Sunday, we turn our attention to the Leinster Final.

Kilkenny travels up to Croke Park for the first time with Derek Lyng in charge to hopefully put a tenth provincial title in his back pocket and a 75th Bob O’Keeffe Cup in Kilkenny’s Cabinet.

They go up against Henry Shefflins Galway, who are out for their fourth Leinster Championship, not bad for a team from Connacht eh?

There are concerns about the fitness of Adrien Mullen, Martin Keoghan, and Mikey Butler who all went off injured against Wexford, and Speaking to me during the week Derek Lyng stated that the decider might have come a bit too soon for some. ( Full interview on Scoreline this weekend.)

The team should be named this morning after 10 am so keep an eye on Scoreline.ie for that one.

Soccer

Carlow has a Gaynor Cup final to contest today!

They dramatically won the semi-final yesterday against Dublin MGL South, and now face a three o’clock kick off against the Midlands League

This is a huge achievement!

Carlow Soccer holds its 37th annual awards night tonight in the Seven Oaks.

KCLR’s own Brendan Hennessy will be MC’ing the event which kicks off at 8 o’clock.

Speaking of big achievements, Freebooters secured a treble of district league Cups in the final game of the Kilkenny season last night.

Ger Hayes scored two with Eoin Hanney & Harry Jordan scoring the rest in the 4-2 win over Bridge United.

Speaking of treble, Celtics The record-breaking treble cups are coming to the Ormonde Hotel Kilkenny on 17th June

Second-placed Derry City are without a win in their last three as they welcome Bohemians to the Brandywell tonight and they will be without the services of Kilkenny goal scorer Colm Whelan.

The forward Colm Whelan will miss the rest of the 2023 season after suffering a second ACL injury in the space of 12 months.

Manchester City playmaker Kevin de Bruyne is taking things in his stride as the club prepare for tomorrow’s Champions League final against Inter in Istanbul.

City are overwhelming favorites to win the game – and with that – the treble. The Sky Blues have never won Europe’s Premier competition before.

Inter last won the Champions League 13 years ago. They finished third in the Italian League.

*Celtic’s Lisbon Lions – in 1966/67 – are the only team to date to have lifted a quadruple of European Cup, domestic league, domestic cup, and domestic league cup in the same season. City could have matched that but lost to Southampton in this season’s English League Cup quarter-finals in January.

Golf

Defending champion Rory McIlroy is 1 under par after his opening round at the Canadian Open in Toronto.

He lies 4 shots behind leaders Aaron Rai, Corey Conners, Justin Lower and Chesson Hadley.

Shane Lowry is even par and David Carey is 1 over.
