Liverpool news: Klopp gives pointed response to FA ban as top-four TV snub explained
Liverpool have two games left in their Premier League campaign – and their quest to pip Manchester United for a top-four finish will be hindered by Jurgen Klopp’s touchline ban
Liverpool are preparing to welcome Aston Villa to Anfield for the penultimate Premier League fixture of the season.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have won seven league games in a row to give themselves a chance of overhauling Manchester United and securing fourth place. Such a finish looked well beyond their means earlier in the campaign, but the Reds have clicked into gear to keep things interesting, with United just a point ahead, albeit with a game in hand.
The final two games, against Villa and Southampton, represent the end of an era at Liverpool, who confirmed this week that James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and Roberto Firmino will leave the club when their contracts expire.
Here are the latest headlines from the world of Liverpool FC.
Klopp responds to FA ban
Earlier this week the Liverpool manager was fined £75,000 and slapped with a two-game ban following his behaviour on the touchline against Tottenham and his subsequent comments about referee Paul Tierney.
He therefore won’t be on the touchline for Saturday’s visit of Villa to Anfield, or for the trip to relegated Southampton the following weekend.
“I expected a punishment. It’s okay,” Klopp said at a press conference on Friday. “I’d like to know where the money goes. People around me were pretty negative, they thought it would be longer.”

TV frustration for Reds
Liverpool host Villa in a 3pm kick-off at Anfield on Saturday, while Manchester United travel to the south coast to play Bournemouth at the same time.
The two fixtures are absolutely crucial in the race for Champions League qualification – but neither will be available to watch on TV for UK residents.
That’s because neither match has been selected for live TV coverage by broadcasters BT Sport or Sky Sports, who are covering Arsenal and Manchester City in the title race instead. If you’ve not got a ticket for Anfield then it will be Match of the Day to watch the highlights.

Wonderkids ready to step up
With Firmino, Keita, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Milner all leaving, Liverpool are going to need to be busy in the summer transfer window, with midfield a particular problem area.
But Klopp will also be looking at the club’s academy, hoping that young players can step up to the first team and ease the burden. Stefan Bajcetic was fantastic this season before getting injured, so there is hope others can follow in his footsteps.
Thankfully, there are some top-class youngsters coming through at Kirkby – and a few might be seen next season.
