Liverpool have been given a boost in their hunt to sign Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton, with the Seagulls already identifying his replacement and the transfer target speaking about a Premier League switch.

Having decided against a move for Jude Bellingham in April, due to the huge cost of signing him from Borussia Dortmund, Liverpool have since turned their attention towards Mac Allister. The 24-year-old is versatile in that he can operate as a No.8, box-to-box midfielder, or in a more advanced No.10 role just behind the main striker.

Mac Allister has had a great season, so it is no surprise Liverpool are pushing to take him to Anfield. For Brighton, he has notched 12 goals and two assists in 36 appearances, helping them to reach sixth in the Premier League as well as the FA Cup semi-finals.

Mac Allister also shone for Argentina at the World Cup, playing six times and registering one goal as Lionel Messi finally got his hands on the most desired trophy in the game.

According to reports coming out of Italy, Liverpool have already reached a verbal agreement with Mac Allister on personal terms. They just now need to sort out a deal with Brighton.

Mac Allister’s price tag has surprisingly dropped from £70million to £53m recently. Liverpool have also been tipped to bring the cost of his signing down to £40m if they include goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher in the deal.

On Sunday, Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi gave Liverpool a boost by admitting Mac Allister would likely move on this summer, alongside fellow midfielder Moises Caicedo.

And Liverpool have been handed another major lift as Brighton are ramping up their chase to make Davide Frattesi their replacement for Mac Allister.

Brighton head to Serie A in Mac Allister replacement search

The Sassuolo ace has been linked with Juventus and Manchester United, but Brighton are hoping to get to him first.

De Zerbi is pushing for his signing, with the pair having previously worked together at Sassuolo.

And Frattesi has made a big hint about potentially coming to the Premier League to replace Mac Allister at the Amex.

“I want to finish well at Sassuolo, then we’ll see. I promised the director not to talk about the transfer market and I want to keep my word,” he said at a recent football awards ceremony (via Tuttomercatoweb).

“In my life I’ve always done everything step by step, starting from [Serie] B and then moving up to [Serie] A. Now I’m at a good level, then we’ll see in the summer. Interest is super nice, I’d be lying to say the opposite. It shows that you need to keep working like this.”

When asked whether it would be better to stay in Serie A or move to England, Frattesi continued: “I honestly haven’t thought about it, the Premier League is a league of important level and you have to arrive there at 100 per cent.

“You have to be prepared, I think it’s right to make another step before going there but in life as in the transfer market you never know.”

Premier League ‘fascinates’ Brighton-linked ace

The Italy international went on to add that the Prem ‘fascinates’ him and that he hopes former team-mate Gianluca Scamacca turns his situation around with West Ham.

Liverpool will be delighted that Brighton have found their replacement for Mac Allister in Frattesi. This means Jurgen Klopp’s side can press ahead and organise a deal to take Mac Allister to Anfield.

Brighton are also preparing to lose Moises Caicedo, with both Arsenal and Chelsea interested in the 21-year-old. But De Zerbi’s side are continuing their excellent transfer strategy by replacing him with free agent Mahmoud Dahoud, whose Dortmund contract will soon expire.

Brighton are also poised to sign James Milner on a free transfer from Liverpool.

Meanwhile, we have taken a look at why Liverpool hope to sign a La Liga sensation and revealed everything you need to know about him in case he does arrive on Merseyside.
