Liverpool are reportedly pushing to complete the signing of Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch this summer.

Liverpool are reportedly pushing to complete the signing of Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch this summer.

The 21-year-old ended his four-year spell with Dutch giants Ajax to join Bayern last summer in a deal worth an initial €18m (£15.4m).

However, Gravenberch struggled for regular first-team football during his debut season in Bavaria and started just five of his 33 appearances across all competitions in 2022-23.

Gravenberch still has four years remaining on his contract, but the midfielder has suggested that he is willing to leave the Allianz Arena this summer in search of regular game time.

It remains to be seen whether the Netherlands international will work his way into the first-team plans of head coach Thomas Tuchel, who replaced Julian Nagelsmann in March.

Bayern president Herbert Hainer recently played down speculation surrounding the future of Gravenberch and believes the youngster will get more minutes under his belt next season.

Speaking to Bild, Hainer said: “In my opinion, he is an incredibly talented player. That’s why we brought him.

“He got more playing time towards the end of the season. I’m sure he’ll get more playing time in the future.”

Nevertheless, a number of top European clubs are understood to have been alerted by Gravenberch’s situation including Liverpool, with manager Jurgen Klopp said to be an admirer of the midfielder.

The Reds are looking to reinforce their midfield ahead of the 2023-24 campaign and add to their signing of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton & Hove Albion.

Liverpool are understood to have held talks with Gravenberch towards the end of the 2022-23 season over a potential summer move to Anfield.

According to the Daily Mail, the Merseysiders are now pushing to recruit the Dutchman, although any proposed deal would have to wait until after the Netherlands have concluded their European Under-21 Championship campaign.

The report also states that Liverpool could face stern competition from Premier League rivals Manchester United, who are also on the lookout for new midfielders this summer.

Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag is familiar with compatriot Gravenberch having coached the youngster during his time in charge at Ajax.

Manchester City have also been credited with an interest in Gravenberch, while Arsenal have seemingly cooled their interest as they prioritise their pursuit of top midfield target Declan Rice.
