Lowestoft shop owners shaken after armed robbery at Pammy’s

Pammy’s Store on Beresford Road, Lowestoft, was targeted on Sunday, May 14, with a robber leaving with a large quantity of cash after holding the 26-year-old at knifepoint.

Pamela Wane and Peter Wane, 63, have run the off-licence and store for 24 years and say their daughter is “distraught” and “shaken” by the daylight attack.

Mrs Wane, 75 said: “My daughter is really shaken, it is utterly disgusting.

“The attacker came in with a sock over their face, nobody else was in the shop, and another person waited outside with a dog.

“My daughter was by the fridges at the moment the person came in and taken totally by surprise, they raised a big knife and demanded everything in the till.

“My daughter is distraught, she is already going through enough and now is too terrified to return to work at the moment.”

Before opening Pammy’s Store, Mrs Wane used to run another shop, Kerry’s Mini Market, and says she has “never seen anything as bad as this”.

She said: “Over the years we have had one or two break-ins, I’ve had to stick up for myself with drunks and shoplifters.

“But in 24 years of running this shop, we have never seen anything as bad as this.”

The shop owners wanted to extend their gratitude to the community who have been really supportive after the robbery.

Mrs Wane said: “I would like to thank the member of the public, who was the next customer in our shop after, who called the police.

“I also would like to thank the rest of the community for looking out for us and for their kind words and support, it means a lot to us all at the shop.”

Two women in their 20s were arrested on Monday, May 15 in connection with the robbery, which happened at about 11.45am.

Heather Ellis, aged 21, of Norwich Road in Lowestoft, and Misha Goddard, aged 29, also of Norwich Road in Lowestoft, were then charged by police with robbery and possession of a blade. 

After an appearance at Norwich Magistrates’ Court on May 16, they are being held in custody until appearing at Ipswich Crown Court on June 13.
