Luton and Coventry in special promotion play-off final battle as Leicester links of former players is an interesting watch – TCF – FILBERT WAY

Next Saturday, 27th May, there will be a game on at Wembley that will be watched with special eyes, as the winner will follow Sheffield United and Burnley up and into Premier League.

Winning this game is said to be the most valuable in the World of football. Leicester could at the other end see themselves relegated, learning the road of lessons from Luton and Coventry, both having a dark cloud period behind them.

The two clubs lived a life of top flight football for many years, but in some way both Coventry and Luton drifted into a long life of dessert walking, The Hatters even losing their EFL status at one stage, playing in the 5th tier of English football not long ago, spending years from 2009 to 2014 in what then was called Conference.

Coventry, with former Leicester forward Mark Robins as manager, has also had a long travel away from the limelight, but silently and with grit, gone the steps up and back to a level they do belong. The club also moved out of their stadium in Coventry (CBS Arena) and played at home in Northampton (Sixfield Stadium) and Birmingham (St. Andrews), and also hosted games in Burton (Pirelli Stadium).

Mark Robins spent three years at Leicester, from 1995 to 1998, being part of the 1996/97 League Cup winning team, and appeared in 56 league games and scored 12 goals in his time at Filbert Street. Robins has an upbringing at Manchester United and once said to have saved Sir Alex Ferguson from getting the sack. Being a player under Sir Alex command and later being at Leicester under Martin O’Neill must surely have given Robins a good and thorough learning.

He has build a good founding having Adi Viveash and Dennis Lawrence as his assistants, both people with an interesting path behind them in football as players and over years build a good experience in coaching.

Mark Robins just signed a new deal at Coventry running until 2027, and if he manage to get them up and back to Premier League, falling out of the best party in 2000/01, getting his first chance as a manager at this tier, previously being in charge of Rotherham, Barnsley, Coventry (first spell), Huddersfield and Scunthorpe, before in 2017 staring on his current and second spell at Coventry.
