Mac Allister to Liverpool and Ferguson to Man Utd among Big Seven moves for Brighton stars

Brighton ended Arsenal’s title hopes in stunning fashion over the weekend and some of Roberto De Zerbi’s best players deserve moves elsewhere.

We have already reassigned some of Southampton’s better players to Big Six clubs (barring Man City). Now we have decided to give Brighton the same treatment, with City and Newcastle United thrown into the mix as well. 

Liverpool acquire their £70m top midfield target and Manchester United solve their striker problem as every Big Seven team get one Seagull apiece… 

Alexis Mac Allister to Liverpool
Since giving up on signing Jude Bellingham, Liverpool’s bingo sheet of potential midfield targets is now close to a full house, but the consensus is that Alexis Mac Allister is towards the top of any Liverpool list.

And it is easy to see why. The Argentinian announced himself as one of the leading midfielders in the world as he showed up when it really mattered at the World Cup to help Lionel Messi get his hands on a trophy that had previously eluded him.

Jurgen Klopp will be gutted that he is not getting Bellingham, but recruiting Mac Allister as one alternative (for roughly half the price) would be a superb bit of business.

Evan Ferguson to Manchester United
Erik ten Hag’s hunt for a new striker will no doubt be one of the major narratives of this summer’s transfer window. Given United’s reported limited budget, Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen may be off the table. If they go down the route of signing a younger striker who has not yet reached his peak, there are not many better options out there than Ferguson.

It is pretty frightening that the Republic of Ireland international is only 18; he is already quite far along in the development process and his emergence means Brighton are no longer lacking a clinical striker.

His decision to pen a new long-term contract at Brighton for a few more years is a smart one. But I am not a sensible man and this is not a sensible article so I’m saying he should thrust himself into the deep end at Old Trafford.

Moises Caicedo to Arsenal
Caicedo has attempted to rebuild some fences after he crocked Gabriel Martinelli in the hope of keeping Arsenal sweet ahead of the summer window.

The Ecuador international was desperate to join the Gunners in January but he has got his head down since getting over his initial disappointment at the transfer not being completed. He is a fantastic ball-winner and he showcased against Arsenal that he is just as capable at right-back, which is damned handy.

Mikel Arteta appears to have his heart set on Caicedo and West Ham’s Declan Rice as upgrades on Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka and they are necessary additions which will help to ensure that this season’s overachievers stay around the top of the league.

Pervis Estupinan to Manchester City
As good as Man City have been this season, they are very short at left-back. It is a strength of Pep Guardiola that he can seamlessly turn Nathan Ake and Manuel Akanji into world-beating full-backs with what feels like a click of his fingers, but an actual left-back might be nice.

Guardiola demands his players can operate in various positions and his mid-season p*ss-taking was punished when he fielded Bernardo Silva as a makeshift left-back in the 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest.

Marc Cucurella’s £15m replacement has slotted in seamlessly at Brighton and he is yet another player capable of earning them a significant profit.

Lewis Dunk to Tottenham Hotspur
At this point, Spurs would gladly take most of Brighton’s players over the current “selfish” crop who were hilariously slammed by an irate Antonio Conte.

Tottenham’s defensive woes have been at the core of their downfall this season as they have conceded 59 goals in 36 league games. This was obviously not helped by them letting in ten goals in two games against Liverpool and Newcastle.

Daniel Levy’s manager search is seemingly not close to being concluded, but one of their priorities (along with retaining Kane) will be to sort out their weak backline. Signing Dunk would be a good start as the reliable veteran is a commanding leader who is also capable with the ball at his feet.

Pascal Gross to Chelsea
There have been plenty of ins and outs at Brighton following their promotion to the Premier League in 2017 but Gross has stuck around throughout this spell and he has arguably enjoyed his best season to date in 2022/23.

The archetypal team player has been used all over the pitch but he has impressively still managed to be involved in 15 league goals in 33 appearances.

While Gross’ ability to provide goal involvements would be valuable for goal-shy Chelsea, his versatility is arguably just as important and Mauricio Pochettino would benefit from his assured presence.

Kaoru Mitoma to Newcastle United
Saudi-backed Newcastle have gatecrashed the established Big Six to form the Big Seven and they are not going anywhere. Unlike Todd Boehly’s Chelsea and Man City during their Robinho phase, the Magpies have spent wisely to set themselves up for the top four this season.

The club’s ambitious owners will continue to spend big in the coming years with the end goal being to win the Premier League and Champions League. Signings like James Maddison and James Ward-Prowse will help them progress further, and Mitoma is another player they could target.

Brighton are blessed with several £60m-rated players and Mitoma is now among them following his breakout campaign under De Zerbi. The flashy winger fits into Eddie Howe’s transfer formula of snapping up young players and Newcastle would afford him the platform to blossom in front of the adoring faithful at St James’ Park.
