Man admits causing death of pregnant mum by dangerous driving

A man has pleaded guilty to causing the death of a pregnant mum-of-two by dangerous driving.

Frankie Julia Hough, from Oldham, Manchester, suffered fatal injuries in the crash on the M66 motorway in Bury and died in hospital two days later.

Her son, Thomas, aged nine, was seriously injured, while her nephew Tobias, aged four, was left badly hurt.

Adil Iqbal was behind the wheel of his BMW, when he slammed into the victim’s car on May 13.

The 38-year-old had just stopped on the hard-shoulder to take a phone call at around 3.10pm when his car hit her.

At the time of the collision, she was 18 weeks pregnant and expecting a daughter, according to her friend Debbie Wright.

‘Words cannot express what her family and friends are going through now, not to mention her poor boys who now have to grow up without their mummy and sister they never got to meet,’ she wrote in a GoFundMe appeal.

‘This is devastating. Frankie touched the lives of so many with her beautiful kind soul. Heaven has gained a true angel.’

Meanwhile, it is understood that little Thomas and Tobias have left the hospital, where they were in critical care, but still require ongoing physiotherapy.

The appeal raised more than £50,000 for the family to help them get though the ‘traumatic’ incident.

Iqbal, who was arrested at the scene, was charged with causing death by dangerous driving and two offences of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

The 22-year-old, from Accrington, Lancashire, admitted causing the death of Ms Hough and to causing serious injury by dangerous driving in relation to her son.

Judge Maurice Greene remanded him into custody to await sentencing on July 19.
