Man Utd player tipped to solve ‘problem position’ at centre of ‘internal discussions’ over summer exit

Man Utd player tipped to solve ‘problem position’ at centre of ‘internal discussions’ over summer exit

Man Utd winger Amad Diallo has been tipped to solve a “problem position” at Old Trafford but he is being targeted by Eredivisie champions Feyenoord.

The 20-year-old completed his move to Man Utd from Atalanta in 2021 for an initial fee of around £19m.

He has been restricted to just nine appearances for the Red Devils but he enjoyed a brilliant loan spell at Sunderland during the 2022/23 campaign. He grabbed 14 goals and three assists in the Championship.

It remains to be seen whether Diallo will have a role to play for Man Utd next season. According to Dutch outlet 1908.nl, Feyenoord are ‘keeping an eye’ on the attacker.

It is pointed out that an injury prevented Diallo from joining Feyenoord on loan before the 2021/22 campaign but they are still ‘closely following’ his progress.

‘Internal discussions’ have already taken place at Feyenoord as they are mulling over whether ‘to make a new attempt to bring in the winger’. An approach to Man Utd ‘cannot be ruled out’ at this stage.

United legend Rio Ferdinand has been impressed by Diallo this season. He thinks the youngster has “unfinished business” at Old Trafford.

“He is an interesting one. He has got talent there is no doubting that. You can see the talent he has got but you can see he wasn’t robust enough at the time. But that loan at Sunderland, he left that place a hero, an absolute god. He plays on the right hand side too, a problem position for us,” Ferdinand told Vibe with Five.

“I know Antony has come in and done well but he is someone you can look at and say can he add something a bit different. I would like to see him given another opportunity. There is a bit of unfinished business and I don’t know if he’s not good enough, not right for Man United or he is [good enough] because I haven’t seen enough.”

TalkSPORT presenter Simon Jordan has been far from convinced by Antony’s performances this season. He thinks the Brazil international is £90m worth of crap” and he is unimpressed by Erik ten Hag’s demands for more signings.

“Okay, Ten Hag. You should have spent £170m in August and £50m in January. Would that have suited you better?” Jordan said on talkSPORT.

“No, you decided to fire your bolt early and spend £220m in the August window.

“What have you done with that? One of the huge parts of it was Antony.”

He added: “He’s crap. He’s £90m worth of crap!”
