Manchester United transfer news RECAP Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe latest plus Shaw updates

Manchester United transfer news RECAP Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe latest plus Shaw updates

The transfer window is officially open and Manchester United will be hoping to make some big additions to their squad as they look to build on their impressive first season under Erik ten Hag.

MEN Sport understands the Reds will be focusing on outgoings as much as incomings this summer, with the uncertainty surrounding the ongoing takeover saga meaning it’s unclear just how big Ten Hag’s transfer kitty will be.

The Dutchman revealed recently that the protracted takeover saga wouldn’t impact his summer business, though it’s expected sales will be a necessity if Ten Hag is to add the quality needed to his squad.

A striker and a younger midfielder are definitely on the club’s radar, though they may also be seeking a new first-choice goalkeeper.

As things stand David de Gea will be leaving Old Trafford at the end of this month, despite United releasing a statement confirming talks over a new deal were ongoing.

MEN Sport understands it is no longer a certainty that the Spaniard will extend his 12-year association with United, and a number of possible replacements have already been mooted.

Today’s big talking point: Do you think United should keep De Gea? Have your say here.

Leboeuf questions Mount move

Former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf believes a move to United would be a sideways step for Mason Mount.

Here’s what he told ESPN:

“If you want to move club, it’s because you think it’s a promotion. Here me well, I am not saying that Manchester United is at the same level as Chelsea, compared to last season.

“In terms of a club and what they want to achieve. I think there is only one club better than Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool. It’s Manchester City.

“I really think, if the player wants to move if he is available, then he has to look for something better, where he can get something out of it.

“So, I don’t understand the move of Havertz to Arsenal or Mount to Manchester United. Like I wouldn’t understand Christian Eriksen from Manchester United to Chelsea. That is the same level, for me.”

Fernandes’ Portugal approach exactly what United need

Portugal manager Roberto Martinez insists Bruno Fernandes is still desperate to play football after a long and arduous season with Manchester United.

Fernandes starred on Saturday as Portugal beat Bosnia and Herzegovina 3-0 in their latest Euro 2024 qualifier, assisting Manchester City man Bernardo Silva for the opener before scoring twice himself in the second half.

The June internationals have come under criticism in recent weeks for over-working players at the end of a long campaign, and few have been pushed as hard as Fernandes.

The 28-year-old played 59 times for United, with only goalkeeper David De Gea racking up more than his 5,156 club minutes. Add to that a World Cup and other international breaks, and the midfielder has racked up an incredible 69 appearances in total.

Real Betis eyeing Bailly deal

Spanish outfit Real Betis are interested in signing Eric Bailly, according toMundo Deportivo.

Bailly spent last season on loan at Marseille and is likely to leave United this summer, having failed to impress Erik ten Hag.

The French side are said to have had an option to buy the 29-year-old for €7m, but opted against it.

Reds ‘ready £45m’ Pickford bid

United are preparing a £45m bid for Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, according tothe Daily Star.

Erik ten Hag is thought to be eyeing a new shot-stopper, with David De Gea in the final weeks of his contract and an extension looking increasingly unlikely.

Pickford is said to be top of the Dutchman’s list of replacements, having continually impressed in his six seasons at Everton.

Let us know YOUR thoughts on United’s season

Amrabat poised for ‘new club’ as transfer hint dropped

Morocco boss Walid Regragui has said midfielder Sofyan Amrabat will be joining a new club soon amid prior interest from Manchester United.

Amrabat’s brother Nordin confirmed in March United had contacted the Morocco international regarding a move to Old Trafford. In January, Erik ten Hag was seeking a midfielder to replace the injured Christian Eriksen.

However, United ended up signing Marcel Sabitzer on loan for the remainder of the campaign from Bayern Munich. The Austrian has now headed back to the Bavarian side and is not thought to be wanted at Old Trafford next season.

United are seeking to strengthen their central midfield options ahead of the 2023/24 season. The Reds are interested in Mason Mount and have agreed personal terms with the England midfielder over a potential move, but have not yet reached an agreement with Chelsea over a transfer fee.

England at Carrington

A few Reds were back on familiar ground ahead of Monday’s Euro 2024 qualifier against North Macedonia.

United have ‘concrete’ interest in Disasi

Axel Disasi remains a player of interest at United, with first-choice target Kim Min-jae looking set to join Bayern Munich.

United were seemingly on course to sign Kim from Napoli, but the German champions have swooped in and look to have won the race.

Erik ten Hag is keen to add quality and depth at centre-back.

Agent Shaw at Carrington

Luke Shaw was asked about tapping up United transfer targets after he posted a story to Instagram of himself with Kane and Rice at Carrington.

MEN Sport understands Kane is a top priority for Ten Hag this summer while Rice was a target but Arsenal are best positioned to sign him.

Have your say on who United should keep and sell

United are heading into the summer transfer window with big decisions to make, but who would you keep and sell?

REPORT – Ten Hag ‘angry’ with slow takeover progress

According to The Sun, Ten Hag is unhappy with the slow takeover progress which has caused United to fall behind in pursuit of Declan Rice.

It is claimed the West Ham midfielder was a target for United but the lack of clarity on the takeover has put the Reds out of the race.

Arsenal are thought to be the favourites to sign the England international.

Shaw admits trying to ‘tap up’ United targets

United defender Luke Shaw has admitted he is attempting to lure targets to Old Trafford while on international duty with England.

There’s a few (players he is tapping up). It’s all a bit of banter really, we have a joke and a laugh about it. I am not too sure what goes on behind the scenes, because it is to do with the club. But of course when we’re here and together we have a joke about it.

REPORT – Rashford set to become United’s highest earner

According to The Sun, Rashford is set to become United’s highest earner in a ‘salary swap’ with De Gea.

It is claimed the forward is currently earning £200,000 per week on his deal which expires in 2024.

However, it is understood Ten Hag wants to offer Rashford a deal which would put him on £375,000 per week and offer the Spanish goalkeeper a reduced £200,000 per week salary to keep him at Old Trafford beyond the end of June.

Dumfries offers transfer hint amid United interest

Inter’s Denzel Dumfries has admitted he is happy at the club despite reported interest from the Reds.

I’m very proud to play for this team. These last two years have been fantastic, and I’ve very proud whenever I’m driving to Appiano [Inter’s training ground]. However, modern football is very dynamic. Players come and go. I have no reason to leave.

ICYMI: United open talks for Darren Fletcher’s sons

United have begun talks with Manchester City in an attempt to sign the twin sons of the club’s technical director Darren Fletcher.

Jack and Tyler Fletcher have come through the ranks at City despite their father’s illustrious playing career at Old Trafford and his prominent role behind the scenes in recent years.

The 16-year-olds have enjoyed plenty of success in the academy at the Etihad, but they now look likely to cross the divide in Manchester, with United opening preliminary talks with City over a double deal, although no bid has been tabled so far.

United ‘frontrunners for Onana’

United are the frontrunners to sign goalkeeper Andre Onana, according to the Evening Standard.

The report claims Chelsea have pulled out of the race to sign the ball-playing keeper, who could replace De Gea at Old Trafford, should the Spaniard not agree on contract extension terms.

Before his move to Inter Milan, the Cameroon star played under Ten Hag at Ajax, but any move for a new goalkeeper is unlikely to happen before De Gea’s future is decided.

OPINION: Glazers aren’t doing what they promised

Joel and Avram Glazer did promise a “thorough evaluation of strategic alternatives” when they announced United were essentially up for sale, but did anybody really expect this?

Next week will mark seven months since that bombshell statement put potential buyers and investors on alert, but United is still owned and controlled by the Glazer family and nobody really knows what comes next.

It’s been another silly week in the soap opera of this sale. The graph showing the share price on the New York Stock Exchange looks like one of those maps detailing the Tour de France’s most mountainous stages. It peaks every time there is a suggestion a takeover is close, only to dip again when it turns out to be business as usual.

Fernandes reacts to his concerning record

Fernandes claimed he ‘does not think about getting tired’ after playing his 69th match of the season.

Fernandes was excellent for United this season and he was the de facto captain in the absence of Harry Maguire. The midfielder was instrumental in the team’s progress and he won praise for his durability throughout the campaign.

The 28-year-old played the most games of any player in Europe’s top five leagues, playing 5,900 minutes, which is significantly more than the player who recorded the second-most minutes with 4,500 (Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez).

Pogba opens up on United exit

Paul Pogba left United last year because he did not feel ‘love’ from supporters or the club.

Pogba re-signed for United in August 2016 for a then-world-record fee of £89million, but he failed to produce consistent performances during his second stint at Old Trafford and he left on a free transfer last summer.

The Frenchman joined Juventus again, who he joined in 2012 when initially leaving United, although his first season back in Turin was scuppered by injuries, which limited him to making just a single start in Serie A.

United in talks with Koch

United are in talks with the representatives of Leeds’ Robin Koch, according to 90 min.

Koch, who joined Leeds in 2020, is expected to depart the club following their relegation to the Championship and several teams are interested in keeping him in the Premier League.

The report claims United and Tottenham are among those to have enquired about him.

United ‘considering Onana move’

United are considering a move for goalkeeper Andre Onana, according to The Athletic.

David de Gea is out of contract this month and although he remains in talks to extend his 12-year stay at the club, an exit for the Spaniard is looking increasingly likely.

It’s said United are therefore looking at the goalkeeper market, with Inter Milan stopper Onana, who worked with Ten Hag during their time at Ajax, one of the options discussed.
