The Wirral Policing team said on social media: “In warm weather we all enjoy a dip in the water but please be aware of the risks, there have been a number of fatalities across the UK this week in open bodies of water.”

Merseyside Fire also issued important advice as they said: “It’s getting warmer out there. If you, or someone you live with, is spending time near water this weekend – please remember or pass on this lifesaving advice.”

Top tips included not entering the water yourself if you see someone in difficulty. Sudden immersion can lead to cold water shock – water is cold, even on warm days, instead, dial 999 and use any rescue equipment available.
